Synergy with RS8 is wonderful. Class A / Turbo / NOS. Such a musical and dynamic pairing.

I hope I will feel the same when I will receive my HiBy R6 Pro II, tomorrow.
Have you messed about with the PEQ ? Had to tweak the PEQ on the R6 to go with the 109's as the highs were a bit overpowering, now it sounds much nicer and subtle.Synergy with RS8 is wonderful. Class A / Turbo / NOS. Such a musical and dynamic pairing.
Yes, although only slight tweaks via MSEB (values out of 100); overall temperature +10 (warmer), note thickness +10, bass extension +5. With NOS enabled, amp in class a mode, and turbo set to on, it’s a very full, musical and very dynamic sound (to my ears).Have you messed about with the PEQ ? Im curious bc that one is much more reasonable.I hope I will feel the same when I will receive my HiBy R6 Pro II, tomorrow.
I can think of other things I'd buy with $3200 than a DAP.
Denefrips Venus II comes to mind.
ZMF Caldera.
etc lol
But whaddo I know- Only my Yggy was even 2 grand.

When 95% of your music listening happens mobile with full sized headphones it makes very much sense.Im curious bc that one is much more reasonable.

Btw - I liked Caldera on RS8 more than on T+A HA200.

This. I’m predominantly an IEM user at the moment due to a lot of travel so the RS8 is perfect. It happens to drive full size cans incredibly well, including the 109 and Atrium. Goes without saying, YMMV - value is relative and subjective.

What are headphones that follow a similar sound profile to the Meze 109 Pro either as sidegrades or upgrades? I feel like Meze Empyrean 1 might be an upgrade/sidegrade and looking at this thread I've noticed the QUAD Era1 might be a sidegrade, what else can folks think of? Doesn't matter to me whether open or closed, the 109 Pro has better bass than a lot of closed backs imo and I do prefer substantial bass response leaning more into midbass than subbass.
I tried out the 109 Pro and I loved how it sounded but had to let them go, for me the inability to really lock in where the pads go combined with the low weight left me unconsciously tensing my neck during long listening sessions causing strain, similar feeling to Senn 800S and ATH-R70X after long sessions.

Now that it is discontinued there are some incredible good deals around for a new pair.

I just received a standard 4.4 mm., balanced cable for the 109s from Hart Audio. I must say that I wasn't expecting much of an improvement in sound over the stock cable. Well, to my surprise, they sound significantly better; just a richer and more full sound than before. Plus, the cable is made of material rather than plastic so it's actually quiet. $75 well spent. Thank you Hart Audio!
