Gah I see you have the same struggles I have. It was a real toss up between the Arya V2's and the 109's for me. I liked the Arya sound better, but I needed something with high build quality and comfort more which caused me to choose the 109's.
But still the 109 sounds fantastic too i would ay close to planar quality but the 109 made .e curious what i might expect in the 1500+ range. I heard so many mixed things

Yes for sure they do respond to different electronics. I just replaced my Topping Dx3 Pro+ with the Cayin RU7 which does have less power, yet I'm hearing more into the music somehow. My next step is to do line out from the Cayin into an amp.

i wonder, do you miss having a planar after you got the 109 pro? or which planar do you own and which one do you prefer?
sometimes i do miss having a planar since i gave my sundara to a good friend of mine and made him really happy with it.
i am constantly thinking if i should get something like an audeze x or an ananda.
but still the comfort of the 109 is unbeatable and the sound quality is on point for my ears
My LCD-XC is still my reference headphone, and it is closed back. The 109s get most use however because of the comfort.

Need some advice please as have not experienced this before, have today received a balanced braided cable and it is annoying the hell out of me, whenever I twist my neck or move I can hear the friction of the cable running against my clothes straight to the headphones and also does it when not really touching anything, just twisting my neck.
Cannot hear it when playing but very noticeable between tracks, noticed the 3.5 plugs are much longer than the original. With the cable that came with the 109's and also have another from a third party this does not happen, any ideas ?
Pretty sure that just microphonics from the cable outer material. Not much to be done about that as far as i'm aware - not that i'm overly experienced. Personally i really rate Hart Audio Cables. If you weren't aware, they come by default with a mini XLR connector (although can be purchased with any termination) which can then be plugged into any of their interconnects see here. Yes it's quite an outlay in initial cost, but gives the options of, for eg, connecting to a balanced port on the RU7 or 3.5mm is no issue - with a big enough kit, you've got all angles covered. To save keep plugging and unplugging my jacks into my amps, i have semi-permanently connected 12" interconnects plugged into my amps. I'd rather have a small piece of cable/connector fail than the port on the amp; easier to replace

Yes read a bit about it and seem it is microphonics, spoke to the seller from ebay and he said he only ever had one case of microphonics before.
He suspects that the 3.5's he has used might be on the long side and might be the cause so he is sending a couple of shorter ones so I can see if they fit and he shall rebuild a new cable.
I think it is a bit of both, plugs being on the long side and the cable itself which is not very flexible and pretty rough to the touch.
Put a couple of pictures showing the cable itself against the 109 factory one and a cheapo from amazon which works well but it is a cheap cable so wanted to get something better. Luckily the guy who makes the cables is pretty local so I can drop off and pick rectified cables until it is sorted.

I primarily use the 4.4mm upgraded balanced cable from Meze to take advantage of the higher power output from my balanced DACs, the Fiio K7 and iBasso DC04 Pro. Very good quality for the price.
Isnt the input to the 109pro is unbalanced so what is the point using 4.4 mm jack?

Not sure what you mean… the 109s have a 3.5mm mono socket in each earcup. It’s the 4.4mm plug that has seperate contacts for left and right channels.

In the end it will be converted to unbalance right? All the power from balance out amp will be lost. Isnt that how it work? Unless the jack into the headphone is also balanced like 2.5 or 4.4 or mini xlr not 3.5.

So recently i heard that if your amp have balance out for example 4.4 jack and you have 4.4 to 3.5 adapter you will short the amplifier. So i was thinking isnt this the same case? im not a technical guy so i am asking.

If I understood correctly I think he is saying his amp or player gives more power from the 4.4 opposed to the 3.5, my Hiby gives 125mW from the 3.5 and 383mW from the 4.4 so I connect from the 4.4

I see what you are asking. I am not suggesting a 3.5 to 4.4mm adapter at the amplifier... I agree that would be a risk of a short on the 4.4mm socket.

The 109s have two mono cups, and the cables that go into the cups are 3.5mm mono. The balanced cable has 4.4mm plug, which will not short the 4.4mm socket on the amplifier.

So 109 pro still can have the benefit from plugging into the 4.4 output from the amps?
