Meze 109 (barely audible background bass - colder, sterile side of neutral
The description in brackets doesn't fit the 109 Sound signature at all

Here is a good comparison between Focal Clear OG (faultless sound - warmer side of neutral - with a great background bass room) and Meze 109 (barely audible background bass - colder, sterile side of neutral - upper midrange and treble focused, but more comfortable):

Their price is more or less the same.

Faultless.... Lol

I think once the Spanish website does their sale again, that is probably when I will go in on this one. I've waited a few months now and most used 109s I've seen for sales are often US based which would still end up costing me more than a new product from Spain after shipping and import duties are accounted for. Not a lot of sales within EU outside of it. Shame but kind of limits the options.

Unrelated to the 109 Pros except for the fact I bought it to go with those, but the knob alone made the Zen DAC v2 well worth the purchase

Hi @Mitch34, curious to know more of your observations on 109 pro + Ifi zen dac v2?

What stood out mainly with this pairing?
Does it tame and smooth out the highs a bit?
Does the truebass switch make a significant improvement to the bass capability of 109 pro?

I have been using Earmen Sparrow balanced 2.5mm to drive my Meze Rai Penta. The clarity with this combo is pretty great.
But using Sparrow with 109 pro "seems" like it makes an already bright headphone more sharper on the highs. Btw, its only been a week with 109 pro, still breaking them in. Hoping the highs would mellow down eventually.

I'm considering Ifi zen dac v2 given majority online accept its slightly on the warmer side.

Instead of basing your opinion off a youtube review, why don't you listen to the 109 Pro yourself and let us know what you think.

I will say that the Meze 109 Pro are warmer and fuller sounding than the original Focal Clear. The Focal headband is just painful for me too, the Meze much more comfortable.

What do you mean by fuller? Note weight, meat on the bone, or just more intimate in general?

Good sound, bad cable / sockets for the cable. Competitive in that price point, but not quite punching up to an Arya sound wise...

I posted my opinion a few pages back. I didn't like Meze 109 Pro, and at the current price it was a waste of money for me (unbearable treble without EQ). Fortunately I managed to sell my Meze 109 with 20% discount on ebay.

What setup were you using?

The treble is smooth and refined for me, but then again I tend to use them with a headphone amp.

They're fun and dynamic but don't come across as bright.
