Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

I read somewhere a few pages back that a support rep confirmed that all amazon stock (and direct from meze) now has the larger pads.  Note that these aren't the 64mm pads, but 62 (I think).  They are also slightly deeper than the 64mm pads.  I was told by meze support that if I wanted the 64mm pads I'd have to get them shipped from their warehouse overseas.

Also, regarding the comfort of the h6's, I should have mentioned my left is extremely sensitive to some headphones from wrestling as a kid.  Having said that, I found the momentum 2's were more comfortable than the h6's, even with my weird ear problems.  The h6's sound much better than the M2's though, IMO.

I had to return the Momentum 2.0s after just a week of usage, they were so bad. By the end of the week, 15 minutes of listening was excruciating and would redden my ears significantly. I was pretty sure that I have normal-sized ears before this experience, but this is making me reconsider that assumption. Maybe they just extend outwards more than normal, idk.

Did you have to pay any for the 64mm pads?

Thanks for the dirty photo peter, shes looking good clothed! ; )

My connectors are on the way via DPD, In Holland at the moment on tracking so should be here early next week and that sleeving you linked me to I ordered also which is here on Monday, can't believe 4 x 1M was around £7 and the only delivery option was £8.40 which turns out UPS are handling what will be a small jiffy bag for £7 worth of tubing! Mad, Would of been cheaper for me to drive to Wembley!

Anyway, it's on it's way and the chap who done your cable got back to me and said send the sleeving in and will see what he can do, obviously they don't want to commit at the moment but can't see why not as your's is living proof it fits okay.

Just a shame won't get mine done before X-mas now as wanted to give this to my Dad as one of his presents for his Meze.

I will be getting a 2.5 TRRS done also but will have to wait until I get a device that has it before I can see the benefits of it balanced to the 3.5 SE which I am also getting done.

Do you think much burn in is needed for this cable at all?

Thanks for the photo to keep me going for now, very much looking forward to receiving mine although a way off yet.

I'm lucky I'm reviewing a couple of IEM's which is keeping me away from my beloved 99's at the moment!

Hope you enjoy them, I think its's getting more bassy as time gose on perhaps abots 50hrs so far. Which IEM's ? I love my fidue A83's with comply tips and a balanced cable

Cheers Peter, be interesting to see if you hear any more changes along the way..

I will take photos of mine once plugged in : )

I'm not long finished reviewing the Meze classic 12's after I had just purchased a pair of RHA T20's which then led me to see what the new CL gear would be like as it was amped only IEMs so currently in middle of reviewing the CL1 & CL750 IEMS with the Dacamp L1 all together in about 12 days and also have the In Ears PP8's to review over Christmas.

Not long reviewed the Vibro Labs Maya which is also an awesome IEM.  I think we are in a bit of a golden age with IEMs especially universals which I think are really matching customs now and it seems sound is getting better at the lower end price tier with today's wider picture of prices and have to say some of the so called TOTL are really having to justify a extra something special in sound quality to reflect their price bracket which from my experience only a few are doing once you go past the £1K mark.  There is a game changer on the way but that will be best part of £4K but it is nothing like I have heard from a IEM let alone a headphone!

This year has taught me unless it is executed very well that some of the less expensive products out there are really kicking some ass and punching above their weight for their price and I think in 2016 the Meze was one of them as well as been a breath of fresh air from top to bottom.

Just to think when I first ever saw the advertising banner on here just from looks alone thought bloody hell, that's a striking pair of can's... got to be £1K load at least so was initially shocked to then find out they where at the time back then only £250 and the rest was history....

Hence I am investing in a cable for these as they are keepers for me as the sound just pulls me back into them for hours on end when I have not heard them for a while so much so my poor old Grado GS1K which is a perfectly able headphone with plenty of detail is collecting a bit of dust at the moment! It's nothing detriment to the GS1K's but is just the magic Meze have worked on the 99's that makes them just easy to listen to as they are so musical yet have a good amount of micro detail heard on cans costing higher.

The Meze for me are in my closed back keepers club with my contrasting yet equally as good Sony 7520's. Yet both don't cost over £500 if I don't include the insane Whiplash hybrid welded to both cups cable upgrade I had done to the Sony's!

No, at least I don't think so, I didn't go that route.  I placed the order directly on Meze's site and asked about the 64mm pads in the notes section of the checkout.  Support replied via email with the available options.  It would definitely take longer to ship.  I think you'll be fine with the 62mm pads.

Meze will be launching a balanced cable for 99 classics in approx q1 2017

Hey @apaar123

A balanced cable for the 99 Classics is just an idea we are currently entertaining. There are no release dates set for this project. But rest assured, once we'll have more concrete information on the matter, we'll let you and the rest of the forum know about it!

Hey Meze Team,

You could always get some test cables made up and then send them round the folks( that have balanced amps) here to try them out and see if there is a definitive improvement.I tried balanced and single ended cables with my HD800 and HD800S. In fairness balanced cables aren't always a clear sonic improvement.

Hey @Dadracer

If we will do the cables, we will surely send them out for tests, that's a given.

Happy Holidays!
