Tried finding a thread about this, and for all i know it wont last. However, i had a question about medicine.

I get headaches pretty often, sometimes they are bad enough to essentially stop everything i had planned on doing that day. Ive had these however slightly getting better ever since i got a concussion/skull fracture around 13.

To relieve my headaches I have recently been taking a few things. My usual dose is:
  1. Excedrin Migraine x2 550mg per
  2. Equate aspirin x2 325mg per
  3. Claritin D non drowsy (unsure)
  4. And, if i have it, Aleve x2 (dont have any atm, unsure)

If that doesnt stop it, and a nap, ill rarely take the same amount later in the day(i know this is bad). Now, im wondering this; Am i essentially harming my body by taking too much?

I have noticed every time i go to the doctor they tell me i have abnormally high blood pressure for my age.(18) Whether this is linked im unsure.

So my question is; Am i permanantly hurting my body by taking too much medication for headaches? Also, when you guys take medication, how much is it usually?

Sounds to me like you get migraines. Why haven't you mentioned this to your doctor? Are you taking all that medication at once?? If so, stop. That is not healthy. You might want to read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medication_overuse_headache

If this problem is migraines, there is unfortunately not much you can do when they come on. Take the recommended dose of your medication of choice as soon as you notice oncoming symptoms. The earlier the better. NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen (aleve) work best against migraines. After that, seek a dark room and lay down. Maybe take a shower in the dark.

As always, listen to your doctor.

I do usually take those all at once. The reason i do is because that is the most effective method so far. If i take 1 or 2 of them it doesnt work. I take the Claritin because sometimes i get headaches from allergies and etc.

Usually right after i take the medicine ill go take a nap, while applying pressure on my head with a pillow. I havent spoken to my doctor about it because it seems like an issue a lot of people have, but maybe im wrong.

Frequent headaches could be symptoms of a neurological problem.  It could also be migraines.  It is definitely something you should mention to your physician.  Do you ever have blurred or double vision associated with these headaches.  My wife has migraines sometimes and I have noticed she sometimes has nystagmus.  She thinks it is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo which she was diagnosed with when she was younger.  After reading about it, it seems likely.

Whodey whatey?

To your question, no i dont have blurred vision. The really bad headaches generally cause sensitivity to brightness, nausea, and dizzyness/loss of refinement in motor controls(i run into things slightly easier, or make mistakes easier, mostly because im concentrating on the pain).

I know i get migraines, and the symptoms listed above increase as the intensity of the pain increases, however usually those arent present. Mostly its just the annoying nagging pain.

You really ought to go to a neurologist for these headaches - this is really out of the ordinary!  If it were me, I'd made the appointment tomorrow morning

Asking for medical advice from many people online will result in both (1) well-intentioned non-doctors using google or their own experience, and (2) those in the medical field with completely insufficient information.  Neither are really going to help you at all.

The main reason i asked on here is because i wasnt sure if any of this was normal. For all i know a lot of people experience these issues, and take the same amount of medication i do.

Yep.  See a qualified medical professional.

my dad saw this post and he said you should see a neurologist and get prescription medicine.

And you are taking too much medicine, you should slowly decrease the amount of medication.

thats all he can say with the information you've given in the first post.

Prescription meds very well might take care of it.  They're not the same as over-the-counter meds.

And that's about as much as I know oher than to tell you to get to a specialist.  Maybe this can be easily cleared up with a good diagnosis and some pills. Wouldn't that be worth getting rid of the headaches?

You are definitely taking too much meds... my friend works at a pharmacy and she flipped out last time I took an extra strength advil and 2 asprins saying I was going to kill myself blah blah blah... She probably is right and all but... yeah, get yourself to a specialist, I think those are way too much meds at once.

Had another headache today. Definately going to be making an apointment soon. Odd enough i fell asleep in the car on the way back from seeing christmas lights(i had to drive through it, the result had my headache reeling) and now its gone. Not complaining though.
