MDR-V6 VS. D66 Eggo (long comparision)

I haven't tried the V6s yet, but I'm guessing that my opinion would be along the lines of Duncan's. The bass isn't so bad on the D66s, at least in my own opinion anyway.

I do have the EX71s which has "extra" bass, but I didn't feel that the sacrifice of clarity and detail was worth it.

Okay... behind the scenes there was a little test going on just now... and my opinions...

Through the D311, the D66 have got plenty enough bass... sounding rhythmic... tuneful, whereas the V6 sound bassier, to the point of being TOO bassy... not to my liking...

On the EJ1000 there is an even bigger difference, the V6 seeming to like the extra bass that that player gives out...

From a purely fun factor ~ musical enjoyment, the V6 get my nod when coming out of the EJ1000 (which is a lacklustre player to begin with)... but from an accuracy point of view, the D66 / D311 combo wins it for my, by quite a huge margin...

...I think the quality, quantity and even clarity of bass that you get out of the D66 is very source dependent...

...A huge case of YMMV I think...

Mike- I have not heard the D-77. But Austonia here on this board has had both and he stated that they are similiar sounding.

I think the refinement you may miss with the D66 is present on the D77,

Thanks Duncan. You are absolutely in the assumption of YMMV. I'm not a bass-head, but I like concert-like bass.

But really, i'm just here to find the best sounding headphones for what I use them for. I *think* I may have found my magical portable combo in the SportaPro / KSC-50 + iPod.

No mate, you're just on crack

At least I'd need a good dose of that to ever think the portapros can touch D66 sonically

Man I'm more and more convinced I'm the opposite of you when it comes to sonic preferences and from now on I can't take your advice seriously

Thats funny Stan... our ears really must be different...

...You're saying about the KSC-50... I find them very lacklustre in the bass, and generally wooly sounding...

Why is there no consistency?? (although I do have a gut feeling that my KSC-50s are broken... and were from the day I got them, but can't prove it)...

The PX200s, I find are way too overblown in the bass, way more than the V6... but its upper bass, making them sound really bloated... Ho-hum

but do note that the KSC-50s fit my ears perfectly, and as with these cans... its all in the fit.

TMC- Let me explain.. for what I listen to and my application. I find myself reaching more for the SportaPros much more than the Eggos.

I think the SportaPro's are just more fun and inviting to listen to. I guess I just like what suits me best, and not what I read. I'm just trying to be honest as possible.

Perhaps this would explain my taste in cars? (E46 M3)
