, ksc35's. but since we were looking at the v6 and d66 bass presentations, i'd wanted to make more examinations.

oh, and i found this interesting thread: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...ighlight=ksc35

Hey now, my "cheap" KSC35 cost me $55 here in Europe

. But as I said, they'll be well worth it during the summer even though I have the Eggos that I don't think will quite fit into the pockets of my shorts, at least without looking way too funny and being unable to sit down.

As for some more indepth look at bass differences between these two I find they're pretty much each other's opposite, especially after reading some EQ-work from Steve999. The KSC35 have a strong midbass while it's around that area that the D66 sound weakest in the bass, while the low bass is actually a bit stronger. But really when it comes to weak bass just about any portable player got some kind of bassboost to remedy that, personally I find I still enjoy the D66 most without any extra bass as the mids and highs really sing at default and a stronger bass muffles out the higher freq. somewhat.

Yeah I remember reading that KSC35 vs V6 thread, it pretty much made up my mind to get the KSC35. They really sound as best in a quiet environment which is a shame since they're so portable and comfortable.

Stan, I appreciate your comparison as well. I've got the V6s and have been waiting a LONG time to get a straight answer out of this board re: whether the Eggos were different enough from my V6s to justify the $100 price tag. All I got back was a bunch of raves about how great the Eggos are and how superior they are to the V6s. I don't care about who thinks which can is better; I wanted to know if the two were different enough to justify owning both since I already own and like the V6s.

While the Eggos might in fact be better (subjectively speaking) in some areas, I've suspected (and your comparison confirmed) that the difference isn't dramatic, and probably not worth $100. Instead, I plan to buy some Grado SR60s, save $30, and have two very different cans instead of two similar Sony cans.

I'm sure the Eggo is a fine can for what it does, and it does some things well indeed. But boy, I sure get tired of people jumping on the bandwagon, which happens a LOT on this board. I have to admit, after so much raving about the Eggos, I've kinda enjoyed reading comments from owners who think they're good but not incredible.

Hi sjino:

In my camparison, I do want to stress that the 2 cans are very different. I like the V6 for certain music, and the Eggos can be used with anything. But since you already have a closed semi-portable can, you may be better off spending your money elsewhere.

The Grados will do you good, esp. if you don't have any other open cans. Or you can try some ear canal phones. For $100 you can get some ETY Er6 (excellent IMO)

If compared, the ER6's are a lot better than the Eggos.

There's quite a bit more bass..

The 'vent' in the eggo does cause a slightly less intense bass than would be obtained with a tightly sealed chamber.

I'm jumping in here way late, and have missed three pages of replies... but I disagree with this...

The D66 has all the bass I need, and sound very natural (tonally)... The V6 don't offer me anything that i'd rather have over the Eggos... the bass just doesn't sound natural to me on the V6 anymore...

Plugged into the D311, the little D66s have a great kick to them

After some more listening, I have come to the conclusion that the Eggos, do indeed "suck" I must admint that I rode the wave of Eggo crazy, and maybe I had such high hopes for the can, that I talked myself into thinking they were better than they really are.

At this point, it is very clear to me, that if I A/B with PortaPros, ER6s, the Eggos are a lot worse sounding to my ears.

Its not about the bass, its not about mids or highs. Just basic sound. The Koss cans have a lot more to offer and are much more musically enjoyable. When it all comes down to it. I'm not here to analyze graphs or seek the ultimate 'neutral' sound. I'm here to learn and try different cans that sounds good to me!

On certain tracks that I listen too, the voices on the Eggos sound like they were being muffled in a cave. They just don't sound appealing to my ears.

Also, I know i'm opening a can of worms here, but if *ANYONE* would like to personally A/B them against my other cans, you can come by my workplace and you'll understand where i'm coming from. I know this sounds like a personal opinion, but thats just not true. I have asked many people to A/B them against my SportaPros and the Koss cans simply DESTR0Y / BLOW / CRUSH(insert desired adjective here) the Eggos.

The Eggos are good, but thats only if I don't listen or directly compare with other cans at the same time.

What kind of music do you listen to Stan?

I know i've abused my ears over time, but I can't believe that you and me have such completely differing opinions...

Yes, it could be synergy with the D311, that really brings the '66s to life... but, I don't think so...

I listen to Jazz (Oscar Peterson, Dave B.) , New Jazz (Sade, Natalie Cole)

Dance / Trance, and a host of other stuff.

Right...

I have hardly listened to the D66s today... and using the V6 straight out of the headphone out of the D311, it sounds pretty damned cool...

I'm sure that if I continued to listen to the V6 semi-permanently that i'd grow to hate the eggo sound also...

...Just a case of what you get used to maybe?

Have you listened to D-77's?

DSL...

I wouldn't worry about it... by account of this thread, most people here would find the R10 crap...

...That isn't an attack at anybody, just seems that we are starting to see a very clear line between who likes what kind of sound...

Don't worry. I seem to be a minority here. Either that, or i'm just speaking the truth that no one wants to hear?

Mike- I have not heard the D-77. But Austonia here on this board has had both and he stated that they are similiar sounding.
