McChanson amps tube rolling thread

Just did a back to back again with these tubes. Every time I listen with VT60, I find the punch and kick stronger. Every time I listen to the ATS25, I find it really rich in tone and glorious. Mind you they are not all that different but those traits are what comes to mind when I try them.

Even though I said that the Russian G-807 appealed with it's clarity and slight brighter, the GEC texture are what sets them apart and in a league of their own. These tubes are good enough to remain in the amp for a long time. :relaxed:
VT60 it is then for me. Thanks for this!

@UntilThen EL38 look so similar to 807 , as you have both, how do they compare ?

When you're comparing Philips EL38 and GEC 807, you're really comparing EL34 and 807 in a way because EL38 is a predecessor of EL34. By the way EL38 astonishing treble reminds me of EL34 metal base.

The main differences here are:-

GEC 807 - more mid centric, lovely for vocals and a bit more comforting in treble. More lush in tone.

Philips EL38 - more prominent in treble and a little bit scooped out mid ( i.e a bit recessed). I also think it's a little brighter compared to GEC 807.

Hi, looking for a double adapter to run a pair of 6S3P single triode in my 6SN7 socket on UltimatE. I cant find one anywhere ! They have all vanished :frowning2:

Considering trying 5A-152M as drivers and / or power tubes in UltimatE. The data sheet I found here did not specify amplification factor, but the post here suggests it may be about 40mu in triode mode. Can anyone corroborate this estimate is applicable in UltimatE, at least as drivers in 6J5 slot as these are triodes as well? Thanks!

I think the 40mu is correct, the same as C3G. I use both as driver and power tubes. They sound fantastic and one of my favorite combinations. Contact Mrs X before she closes her store on eBay at the end of this month.

Contact Deyan. His adapters are nicer. :relaxed:
