There's been another delay on the Silk transformers. SAC Thailand must be very busy. The 2 Super amps won't be ready till the end of July now. What's a little wait anyway.

I'm really busy right now until the weekend.
But I'm reading along diligently.
Thanks for the tips on 6J5 Sylvania and all the impressions.
I'll keep an eye on it.
This week 2 pairs of output tubes arrived with high value.
I'm still waiting for 2 more high-calibre driver tubes, then I'll show you everything.😁😁😁😁

Thanks for your post but do keep all things tube related to the tube rolling thread.

This thread is for McChanson's amps impressions and amps announcements. What you like or don't like about McChanson amps goes here. :relaxed:

Are there reasons why the transformers from Thailand take so long?
Eric's TimE transformers are also very good.
I'm absolutely happy with them with my Junior Ultimate.
Pretty sure they are custom made and hand wound - I reached out to them about making me a pair and this is what they told me their process was - and I am going to assume that Eric probably has custom specs outside of the off the shelf OPTs on their site, but that is just a guess.

It’s all about supply and demand. When Sowter was at its height of popularity, the wait for its transformers became very long. Silk is facing the same problem now.

TimE is good but having heard both long term, Silk is much better. Fluidity and smoothness. The standard Silk used in Super Ulimate is capable of 13 watt and 90mA. That’s why I could set KT170 tubes to 70mA in the KT170 amp which also use standard Silke. Eric said timE cannot do that.

I put forward to Eric about using Monolith Magnetics output transformers instead of Silk. He came back with a list of prices for the Monoliths. :) So if you have a deep wallet, you could consider it.

The Monolith Magnetics SE outputs are more expensive than Silk. There are three grades, the standard Summit is 323 Euro piece, a pair will be about 650 Euro, then add about freight and GST it may be about 1000 Euro, that is about AU$1600.. The highest grade Nano-X will be double the price to about AU$3000 ....

Personally, I don't know how to select transformers in a tube circuit.
That's why it's difficult for me to find something where I would say Transformer X would appeal to me.
A common and popular manufacturer would be Lundahl, which still has a reasonable and affordable price:

Alternatively, there is something from Poland that is also supposed to be very good: Toridy or whatever they call themselves.
I also believe that they make customised products.
I'm sure there are others out there if you can find them.
It also seems a bit like the Corona crisis in general, where everything is available but simply involves a lot of waiting time.

When I was having Odyssey built, Tomas enquired about custom Lundahl output transformers for me. Lundahl said that the minimum orders for custom orders is 100. :)

Lundahl, Sowter, Monolith Magnetics and Silk. They are all good. There are no bad transformers from those makers there.

On a separate note, I do miss the sound of the Lundahl from my ECP-DSHA 3F
