I see! I think the manual specifically says only to use the supplied power cable and supply, but I think I remember reading a few people had tried other options. Good luck if you do!

No, we don't just use half the input signal. We use it all, through an instrumentation opamp differential input stage.
Both 789 input types are extremely high quality with impeccable measurements. For most setups, indistinguishable.
Choose the DAC you like best, and if you must use RCA use short cables 1-2ft. It'll be awesome. Cheers!

No, would be the same. Probably the number game that would be different but no audible difference for sure.

Probably yours is quality control or due to age. Its actually suppose to be buttery smooth when you rotate the knob. The power button is definitely scratchy when you press them but thats original factory condition as brand new. Overall, I still like the unit itself.

I think that if I did order the SH-9 I would find it the same or worse and be somehow disappointed. There are a few reviewers that say it comes close to the HPA4, which I have heard.

If the SH-9 goes on sale or Drop I may get it.

It doesn't sound bright to me?!

The DAC is the Metrum Acoustics Adagio.
