i've read nothing but great reviews on the ath m50 but my friend is giving me an offer to sell me his mdr v900hd for 100$ and i was wondering which one to get. i like bass.

Fake MDR-V900HD headphones are sold from China on eBay. I suggest not buying your friend's Sony headphones unless he can prove where he bought it or you like how it sounds. $100 seems like a good price for used. If you don't like how it sounds, buy the M50.

ATH-M50s = sexy time.
 
Seriously,  They can take all the power you give em and never distort.  Can play unamped.  Are portable.  Sound great.  Mods can alter bass.  Good mids.  Slightly bright, but quality treble.  I feel that Treble can be the only weak point.  Sometimes it sounds slightly garbled.  I'm not sure if that's source or the cans.
