M-Audio AV40 - still a good buy?

Also - http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2e3y1r7&s=8#.VIoiPF31PbN <<< Here's kinda what it looks like as far as the low pass filter settings go.

I was told by another user here it's randscale for fine tuning between 50 and 60 then logarhythmic (can't spell that) for the rest.

Glad you love it. How are you running the sub and monitors? I run my monitors full range and cross the sub at 70hz, with phase at 0 degrees. Let me know what you like about the monitors and especially how you like the sub I made you buy :) Post pics in the Computer Rig pics thread as well.

This is exactly how I have mine now. Ran a bass test that starts at 10 and goes to 200. The crossover was quite a bit better than when it was at 80. In that picture I put, the knob is right in the middle of 60 and 80 where it says 70, so yeah. Thanks again :)

Glad to hear my recommendations are working!

That pic of the low pass filter is what I had in mind it being.

Has your speaker system made you hate headphones yet? Mine did when I got my first setup.

For sure! Good good.
And hell no! Are you kidding me? Haha. Speakers are a pain to set up, take up a bunch of space, require quite a bit of power, are not a good value for money when compared to headphones (get much better quality for the money in HP), take up a bunch of space, have less ease of use, and yeah... BUT, when it's all set up, it sure makes me forget I ever had headphones.

It hasn't made me hate them, but they certainly see a lot less use now. I actually feel they are on par with my Paradox Slants driven by the Project Polaris Amp. I'll really have to compare with the new DAC though. And hey, don't think I have forgotten about the pictures. I just had a mishap with my DAC, as well as a few life things, so I put it on the backburner. I'm about to get a new DAC though, then the pictures will be up :)

Finally you respond. I was going to ask you about pictures but saw you haven't been on in months. I am using headphones at college and am actually liking them. At home though it is the speaker system all the way. Any changes to the setup to your system? Still sounds amazing?

What DAC are you getting? I got the MF V90, but it sounded pretty much the same as to my Xonar, which sounds the same as my new motherboards onboard audio. I have quickly realized spending a lot of DAC's can be quite useless. Still love mine nonetheless.

Sorry, had a lot going on. Nice. No changes. Yes, still great. I'm looking at the HiFiME 9018. Glad to see you found out the truth about DACs. They shouldn't make that much difference in sound anyway.

Still had a lot going on brother. I know a picture isn't hard to take, but I wanted everything setup perfectly. I'm ready for it now. Should I post it here or what?
To answer your questions, yes there have been changes, and yes, still sounds amazing! :)
I got the GeekOut450 DAC. I'll probably be getting their V2+ Infinity or regular at some point too.

The white cord is just the USB for my phone, which is never connected there.

Monoprice 5" studio monitors, $170, they are what I use.
They appear to be rebranded M-Audio BX5s

These monoprice speakers are only $109, so I'm thinking about getting them.  Would they be a good upgrade from my Logitech Z series?  (Currently using X-Fi Titanium HD)

I've been using headphones for a number of years being a 1337 FPS gamer, but lately I've been enjoying just using speakers and jamming music now that I chat less and play other types of games.

I bought my LSR 305's for $112.50 each from EDIT: Musician's Friend (dunno why I said Guitar Center). That included free shipping.

The Monoprice studio monitors are $109.98 for the pair, plus a I found a coupon code for $10 off and free shipping.  :)

Edit:  I went ahead and got the subwoofer as well since it's only $142 and looks to make connecting the monitors much easier from the sound card.  If this sounds decent, I don't think $242 for a powered sub and studio monitors can be beat.

bumping this very old thread as the wirecutter has them listed as their top recc. while discontinued, a local Sam Ash store has these for $150.

might be beating a dead horse but are these worth looking at or moving on from? wanting to pick up a pair of powered  speakers for my office, or debating spending the money on IEM's.

M-Audio AV40's for $150? That's a terrible deal. JBL LSR305's have been on sale for $200 and those will murder the AV40's and the more expensive BX5 D2's. I would get good quality speakers that way you can not be encumbered with wires and be much more comfortable for longer periods of time.
