What do the middle and left top buttons do?

There is no now playing button to bring you to the playing file directory?
If I'm understanding your question, you should just use the three software buttons near the top of the display screen.
No no, not that kind of now playing. I want the one like the DX90's which you press now playing and go back to directory and you get to know which folder or album the song is in.
I have a couple of dozens of m4a files that played fine with my L3, weird.....
Love this player but I'm sticking it in a drawer until the next FW upgrade.
What is stopping you from using it?

It's a hassle for me to transcode my ALAC files. I have 2TB worth and most of my favorite albums are ALAC. Besides that it only plays a select few of my 24/192 FLAC files. I hate to say it but right now my iPhone 6 with Onkyo HF Player is serving me better.
I believe L3 supports ALAC files.
