I currently have the HD595, and their great! But I want to upgrade if I must say. Living in a town where 'auditioning' cans is not an option, what cans should I look into getting for Rap, Jazz, other vocals...? No electronia type music though. I like the way my 595's sound im just getting board with them.

Setup: iMod, Tomahawk, diyiMod cable.

I'd possibly think about waiting for sennheiser to release their new headphone. If it ends up being out of your price range, you should be able to at least pickup a pair of hd650 at a lower price due to the new release. Also, what price range you looking at?

True. I can't believe I forgot to mention price range!? Lets say around $300-350 for now, I'm sure it'll go up

I went from the 595s to the Denon D2000s. I think they are a good upgrade. Great bass that could do rap justice and nice clean midrange and treble for jazz. I also second the poster above on checking out the new Senns.

Your current price range would get you the HD-650... But when the HD-800 is released, it will likely get you that and save you some money. As well, Sennheiser could very well release more than one pair of headphones, bringing not the HD-800, but the theoretical HD-700 within your grasp.

The flip side of the new Sennheisers is that a lot of people here will be selling off their old cans to buy new ones.

So even if you're not crazy about what Sennheiser comes out with, you can be sure that a lot of people here will be buying it. There will be a ton of good used headphones for you to choose from, as well.

Didn't know that they were releasing a new one. Do you have any specifics? Date range? Price Range? Is it going to be the new top-of-the-line?

Thanks

For those of you recommending the 650s, please take note that the op is using a Tomahawk, which is a nice amp, but not capable of driving 650s.

OP, if you want to keep with your current source/amp and just go for headphones, I'm currently quite impressed with the ATH-ESW9s, and far prefer them, sq-wise, to the Denon D2000s I heard. They're closed, semi-portable, sound not bad unamped, but significantly better with a little juice, and are beautiful as a bonus. You might want to check out others' impressions on them to see if they might interest you. Also, the Tomahawk should be a good match with them.

If you're seriously looking at moving up the Senn line (don't know about the new releases, so hard to tell), you'll need to consider an new amp in your budget, as the Tomahawk won't cut it.
