Exactly :D That's why I'd rather overpay for Thomman. Also a bit of annoying at this point but my laptop should be enough to power up the 80ohm version right?

In over 10 years I've never heard of a counterfeit Beyerdynamic.
There are already 'genuine' fakes from Superlux (HD330), so there isn't really much room for fakery.

So if I go for amazon I can be sure that they'll be original and actual beyerdynamics ?

Without any hesitation, I'd go with DT770 Pro 80 ohm.
They have solid bass and excellent clarity, emphasised by their faster than average decay.

The build quality of the Shure SRH840 is shameful for the price and bass distortion kicks in very early... actually it's just a pretty bad, over-hyped headphone in general that should have lost it's relevance by now.

Overhyped? I think it doesn't get enough love. Excellent headphones for the price and I've not heard any bass distortion.

M50x on the other hand... Flabby bass with harsh highs and a sucked out midrange, to me they are the overhyped one.

Also build of the SRH840 is very good, it's the 940 people mainly had issues with.

I'll say again, this is from listening to both, and is my opinion.

Having experienced firsthand the shoddy design of both the 840 and 940, I have to fully disagree with you.
The weak, plastic, over-engineered headbands will eventually snap on both of these. They've got too many small pieces for their own good.

Will that laptop power the 80 ohm version to desirable listening levels?
It should be more than enough and they scale well so in the future he can add an amp to make them sound even better, I used my with my iphone too and they were ok
