Looking for college (yes another college thread lol)

Don't be such a wuss and go to school close to mommy and daddy Slacker! I'll get you into a real school out here and Cali and your accent will KILL with the girlies. Seriously, dude, don't limit yourself geographically because you can make trips when you need to.

Also, go to a prep course and get your scores up the first time--don't be so damn lazy. Look, I saw you work that room on Saturday. You put your mind to it and you had every piece of shwag they had to offer, and some they didn't offer (like those foamies...)!!! Get off your butt and take care of the rest of your life.

Or don't.

hehehe I loooove the east coast, the only reason i'd go to west coast is for the hotties, but we got plenty of them here as well. I am taking SAT prep right now, but its a free course I got from the Federal Reserve Bank. I would take a good SAT prep course but I cant afford them.

Voltron, dont even START about the foamies you lucky person! You won like 3 raffles so shut up lol

. We don't even know what the rest of Mr Slacker's background is like. Thanks for not contributing to this thread.

The last things the world needs are people who aren't confident in themselves.

idk how much you know about the process, but there's no point in applying to HUGE reach schools. I have enough money that i could be like everyone else and apply to every school out there, but i know realistically i wont have a chance at a school like Tufts or Brandeis with those stats. You really need to look at ranges, see where you fall in, and if you are semi-close to a range, but not in it, THEN you have your reach schools.

Kaplan costs a grand. I'd kick down $100 for my little buddy to get a decent SAT prep course. Anyone else? We get 9 more people and you have it in the bag, dude (that's math I just did there, by the way).

It's important, and I am serious about this offer. I hire people all the time, and college and graduate level degrees are all too easy to use as a filter.

Getting into an argument with the wrong people, dude - Teerawit's currently at Georgia Tech, and I'm graduating from Wharton in 2 weeks. MrSlacker's grades aren't that bad, and SATs can be prepped for. I see nothing in his (or yours for that matter) background that completely precludes a top school.

The point is - you'll have to work hard. But if you're willing to work hard, it could happen...but it will only happen if you try. If I can get into Wharton from Mississippi public school, certainly the two of you can get in too, since your high school is probably loads better than mine was.

That's great that you know your background well enough to call them HUGE reach schools, but we don't know Mr. Slacker's background well enough, so it would be best if we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Scores don't dictate anything. It is blind to say that it does. Don't check out that Harvard link I posted previously.

Check out the schools' acceptance rates too.

i know all about him, and i knew about you as well. I come from probably the top public HS in PA and arguably one of the most competetive. I know it looks great that i come from this school, but even that cannot help my chances enough for me to apply to schools that are huge reaches for me, as it would be a waste of time and money.

I am taking a practice test tomorow. So next week I should have the results and will let you guys know how I did. This time I am gonna make sure to get enough sleep and take it serious to see what I am capable of score wise.

Good luck tomorrow. Just think of it as a practice...that is EXACTLY what it is...oh by the way, it's nice to go to a decent school, but more importantly how WELL you do at school that REALLY matters (if are really good at school, ANYONE will hire you, tons of my friends went to Ivy League grad and law schools from Fordham)...remember...there is ALWAYS grad school and also the option of transferring. Have a good weekend!
