First things first, i'd like to keep the cost below $150, and from the options i've found its more than possible I think. I used to have the Sennheiser PC350 headphones and absolutely loved them after they got burned in. The bass was nice, while still having nice clear higher tones. I prefer the over the ear, closed back headphones as they are more comfortable and don't bother others with the sounds, while keeping outside sounds away from me also.
The ones i'm looking at now are:
Shure SRH440 http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH440-Professional-Studio-Headphones/dp/B002DP1FTU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352844294&sr=1-1&keywords=shure+headphones
Sony MDR-v6 http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-V6-Monitor-Series-Headphones/dp/B00001WRSJ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1352844937&sr=8-1&keywords=MDR-V6
Audio Technica ATH-M50 http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATHM50-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B000ULAP4U
Sennheiser HD-280 Pro http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352845545&sr=1-5&
Those choices are just based on headphones i've read good things about, I haven't actually heard either of them myself.
They will primarily be connected to my computer through an HT-Omega Striker 7.1 sound card, but sometimes possibly my cell phone Droid Incredible 2. I do understand that the cell phone option probably wont power them well enough, but it won't be for long periods of time, or very often. If they still sound good, then great, if not then its not a deal breaker at all.
The things I will mostly be listening to are video games and occasional movies, and music which is mostly rock/metal at 320kbps mostly. Obviously bass isn't supper important for those types of sounds, but it is nice to still hear/feel it in my head when it hits. The PC350 for instance, kind of rumbled my head when there was loud bass, but was still fairly clear and not muddy with other sounds at the same time.
Also, cord length really isn't much of an issue, I have no problem with rolling it up a but and using a twist-tie or something to keep it together. Any other suggestions are welcome as well.
