$75 is really good for SR80is, go for it!

Yeah I'm thinking I'll go for it, but all the other options I haven't been able to try really makes me wonder if it's what I want in terms of Hi-Fi phones. (Tried: Sennheiser 5xx, and Grado SR80/125)
Best I can afford: SR125i, Best I can afford

: SR80i

I forgot to check on the "used" price of the 125i, so that's possibly in the actual price range I'm looking at. But considering I thought the 80i is really nice as is... I don't know yet.

A nice semi open headphone is the Superlux HD668B, they can be modified fairly easily and have a great starting point price wise. I liked my pair but the siren call of the Denon AH-D7000 was to strong so sold them but they are an excellent midfi headphone to get started on bigger headphones. They look a lot like the K240S and can even use the velour pads from the K240 but I don't think they are just a rip off of them as they are meant to sound different.

Superlux couldn't ripoff the design of other company's cans harder if they tried, google the name and look at pics.

the 125i and 80i is just a very insignificant difference, I went with the 80i over even the 225i the just was just not enough to warrant a 100$ markup. the 325is may be a different story, but I have yet to try them.

Well considering I did notice a slight improvement with the 125i, I'm considering them too. Only reason being because I was thinking $100 for the 80is before, and if the 125is are lowered enough, it would be alright compared to that. But $75 SR80is still sounds really nice. And the K240 is still the better looking of the two to me. Especially because (even if being open makes this meaningless unlike the closed ones I have) I usually like the full around/over ear pads.

I got the 125is. $115 + taxes. I'm glad I got them.

I would have got the 80is, but they sold the last pair, so I stepped up one and don't really regret it... Mainly because I would have paid about the same price to get some new 80is shipped to me.
