Tbh, I don't know anything about basketball or sports in general, I just went with some friends and I didn't know it was common .

Everybody and their mother uses HD25 headset.  It's not the HD25 in specific btw.  Sennheiser sells an actual headset version that goes for around 4-500usd.
 
TNT uses it, ESPN, ABC, hell even gomtv when watching Starcraft 2.

I doubt everyone who endorse Beats thinks Beats is the best headphone.

AKG is doing it with the Q series and they stayed about the same price. All it did was introduce new colors. The lime one sells for 223 on Amazon which is a decent price.

Maybe he's not famous enough to charge huge royalties? I think far more people know who Dr. Dre is than, say, someone who might actually know something about sound like Quincy Jones.
