Difference between IE800's D2CA and IE900's X3R tech? Any opinions about some website or KOL 's
specific target curve matters/ranked? (yeah, i mean Crinacle and ASR guys)

I do have a question for the session, since Jermo is really knowledgeable:

What is the difference between Helmholtz resonators and passive radiators?
I think the Helmholtz is for the accumulation of bass to lower mid frequencies and enhance it. This should be similar to large speakers cabinets. The passive radiators is to provide more controls in the resonances of the whole structures and the frequencies responds of the system as a whole. When both are combined, the soundstage, controls and fidelity with low bass should be a good mixtures. However, some of the upper mid and lower trebles May face distortions and or incoherences. Focal is one of the reputable company that designed and take advantage of both speakers cabinets and passive radiators in their nearfield monitors

If these are what being cramped into the Ie900 then it is very interesting to see.

Sony IER Z1R has a bass chamber to provide better controls over the bass. It is one of the In ears that has the most ridiculous bass with quality and also not lacking fidelity. The downfall is that it has a slightly recessed mid to upper mid that made it a little veiled and may be too baddy and relaxed for some people.

Anyways, I am interested to see the real developments of real DD buds

The same as speakers, a good speaker is a speaker that has great cabinet design with one single capable Driver and not multiple with Martian farts technology and Martian skin diaphragm....However, some companies will try to use Kryptonite and claim that it can give Superman eargasm and sell for 6-7K

I think the Helmholtz is for the accumulation of bass to lower mid frequencies and enhance it.
My understanding of it may need some enhancing, but I believe that they are little chambers that sap energy from the overall sound, with nozzle openings of a specific size to allow target frequencies “in.” Edit: Actually, the nozzles all appear to have the same size opening and distance to the resonator chamber, so it must be the size of the chamber that affects the frequency response.

So, practically, they act as absorbers for specific frequencies. I think that’s why there are three in the X3R (x3 Resonators) design of the IE 900, so that they can affect three different areas to tame the highs. The product page has an interactive graph where you can click each of the resonators to see how each changes the frequency response.

In the speaker world, I’ve seen people say that the cabinet design, room treatments, and room shape matter as much as the driver... sounds like the IE 900 carries its miniature home speaker room with it everywhere!

I could be absolutely wrong though, and you should take Jermo’s word for it over mine. And I would like to know more about passive radiators! Thanks for sharing your research, @Whitigir!

Does Sennheiser have any future plans to release a third IEM model that is priced in-between the IE 300 and IE 900?

I would love to see a model that uses the same driver and tuning as the IE 900, but made with more economic materials like the IE 300.
