i guess it was a bad first impression. i'll tell u this if i'm to buy a pair of rs1 like i wanted to i'm gonna audition those bad boys first b4 i lay down the cash for them that's for sure. i guess my beyers have spoiled me in terms of comfort.

I think they're comfortable. My AD2000's were worse than my SR60's. And the bass is a bit shy, you say? Wow, I think the bass is perfectly fine in these HPs - maybe even too much. But then again I see you're owner of the DT 770, which in most cases is a bad reference phone for bass!

Just a random thought. I can't remember ever seeing a vintage Senn or Beyer that commanded a much higher price than what they originally sold for. With Grados you see it all of the time...SR-100s/PS-1s/HF-1s/RS-1s and more. The fact that these old cans are still around after years and years is a testament to their build quality. The only thing that really goes are the pads, and those can be easily/cheaply replaced.

That makes me wonder... exactly how old my pair is? Because they are just about flawless condition-wise.

you may have a point but u can't really blame me. after listening to my beyers for just over 3 months now any other headphone sounds bass shy to me lol.

I don't think the Grados are as flimsy as people make them seem. Most people that actually own one will say the same. Sure, they are kind of awkward, but they sound good.

Did they have bowls or comfies on? If they had bowls it's a better chance that it was SR80 and not SR60.

The bass lacking that you refer to is because the bass isn't bloat like on the Beyers. Trust me, listen for an extended period on the Grado's, and although coming from the Beyers they sound anemic, once you go back, the bass will sound boomy, hollow, and bloated.

Every time I go back to DT770's, I cringe a little because the bass is so big and heavy. I never thought I would be a fan of the "lack of bass" but the speed and punch it has rather than amount of it is now preference...even when I'm listening to hip-hop...

Finally home to test out my new SR-225 I traded my beyers for, running them out of my laptop into the hornet-m. Laptop onboard sucks but it'll do for now.

I like the sound, not my cup of tea but the mids are very nice, not fatiguing at all, my ksc75 sounds more fatiguing

I like the highs, bright sound with nice bass, doesn't go very deep or in large quantity, but they are fast and with nice impact.

Soundstage is non-existent even compared to my koss, but I definitely can see why people like the grado sound.

These will probably go up for sale on Wednesday/Thursday after I listen to them on my computer instead of my laptop, probably for the price I would've sold my mint condition dt770

Also, since I got a taste of the Grado sound, I can see why people compare the Koss ksc-75 as being Grado's little brother. If these has the soundstage of the ksc75 and bass quantity but clean and more refined like the way they are I would've kept these

O yeah, the bowls are pretty comfortable, wish they go around the whole ear, but they don't hurt me at all.

I've had the SR80s for 7 years now, and it's still one of my favorite multi-funtion headphone. The build is very sturdy, they're great for portables, and They're very comfortable after you break them in. Oh, and the cushy earpads definitely help (the bowls pinched my ears after a couple of hours, but I've worn the pads at a 12-hr stretch with not even noticing). In my experience, you really can't beat the sr60s or 80s for under $100.
