my god are the grados uncomfortable. the build quality is terrible compared to the other headphones i own.
i didn't know the grados were so big lol. they look alot smaller in pics.

this is the story how i tried them on.

so i was working and some kid came in with them on and i instantly recognized them. so i said "nice grados" he looked at me in like shock and said "did you say grado? you know about headphones?" i chuckled and said yeah and told him the phones i owned and stuff. and i told him that i never tried out grados but i wanted to. in a flash he handed em over and asked what kinda music i liked. put on a track to let me listen for awhile.

the sound was great for a $100 headphone. but man i didn't like how they felt on my head. i felt like they could break at any moment. sound was detailed and voices sounded great. but bass was lacking. overall pretty daym good for $100 set of cans.

but i wouldn't buy a set of grados just on the fact of comfort alone.

i also schooled him on LODs, amps etc. and i let him listen to a set of SE530s. overall pretty good to run into an amateur audiophile at work.

Hmm, I disagree about the build quality, they are plastic but sturdy. I hear a lot of complaints about the comfort but I don't have any issues with it, its quite comfortable to me. Also Grado SR-60s go for $70, maybe you listened to the SR 80s?

hmmm you are prolly right. i don't remember the number i just remember the guy told me he paid $100 for them. but i instantly knew they were grados.
the reason i said what i said about the build quality is because i'm used to my beyers and senns which i can drop from a building and still be working just fine. compared to these German heavyweights the Grado just feels flimsy and delicate.

The build quality is pretty flimsy up until the MS2 and 325i ect.. from what i have seen. The iGrados feel sturdier than most.

They're fairly sturdy - you don't see many threads here about them breaking.

Comfort is something of an issue. I can't wear Grados until I've thoroughly washed the pads. Usually, 5-6 times with hand soap in the sink. Then they're comfy.

that's another thing. those pads are killer. who the hell designed those things? i hope they are that way for a very good reason cuz they are as uncomfortable as shyt!

Well... I think they fit differently on different people. I can wear them for a good 8 hours straight with little to no discomfort (the SR60s w/ standard pads). You can bend the metal band larger or smaller, or even into different shapes, depending on the shape of your head. And yes, they don't appear as sturdy as some others, but I've worn mine around daily for several months now and nothing's wrong with them at all.

i'll tell you one thing about the grados... they are more portable then a lot of other full sized headphones.

not on the level of the beyers but why do you say that? they feel more sturdy than the grados.

oh i'm not worried about that. as long as the things don't break in half and one cup falls off it doesn't matter to me if the paint chips lol.

I have had my SR60s over a year now. I have crossed the pond in them twice and worn them for 7 hours straight with no problems. I take them with me when I work away from home. They still look like new and the comfy pads that ship with the SR60s have always been a pleasure. I auditioned them side by side with the SR80s and preferred them.

I have owned a set of SR80s for at least ten years. With the exception of the foam pads falling apart, I have had no issues. The head band can be bent outward to relieve the pressure on your ears . When I first got them it did feel like my noggin was in a set of pliers. I will sometimes wear them at work for hours at a time and not feel any discomfort.
