What CDs do you consider the best sounding to  show off your highest end gear?  Also best headphone CDs.  Red Book only no SACD or DVD audio.

Also list any stand out re-mastered CDs.

As for reference CDs for me right now, I'd say:

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious
Alice in Chains - Unplugged
Pink Floyd - DSOTM & Wish You Were Here
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
John Coltrane - Crescent
Deadmau5 - For Lack of a Better Name
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

and possible Diana Krall's The Look of Love for some nice female vocals.

Why no SACD or DVD-A?

All of my reference discs are SACDs.

DSOTM SQ is overrated on my opinion, but that's also said a million times in different topics here

Thanks for the replies so far!  Many great leads I'll check out.  I can't afford SACD or DVD audio at this time.

I agree with Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms-a sonic masterpiece!  Is the remastered copy any better than the original?

Keep the lists coming-I'll submit my list soon I'm looking through my collection.

Sorry mate, I didn't even consider specifying which version to recommend. I own the hybrid redbook/SACD one right now, had some other versions before, and though it is considered to be the worst, I still think that it's a fantastic sounding album.

I realize that it's been mentioned a lot, but I still genuinely believe that it's great.

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (1992 remaster) and Aja by Steely Dan.

I've found the 2003 30th anniversary edition of Dark Side to be aimed at modern sub-par listening environments. They boosted the bass and vocals more significantly than any other changes.

I sometimes listen to Donald Fagen's Morph the Cat to assess bass quality (not quantity) -with a great set up you can hear every nuance of the bass strings, including the contact of fingers.

Thanks that's the kind of post I'm looking for.  I have that CD(Morph the Cat) but now I'm going to go back and really listen to the bass quality.

One of my favorites for Bass quality is El Macho by Mark Knopfler.
