Light Harmonic Geek Wave

My guess is that after they received their shipment they discovered that they did not own the Verb design and did not have exclusive rights to it. They failed to properly exercise due diligence and paid dearly for this error when they found out about the Xuma after the Verb was shipping to the backers.

That aside, I can't believe that they approved the $#!+ sound which at that time they told us was correct. Alas, their story changed substantially with the announcement of the Vibrato replacement for the Verb. This is the thing that I find most disturbing about LH Labs and makes it difficult to truly believe anything that they say.

Agree, it was really this refusal to admit anything was wrong with the sound that shook my confidence in LHL the most.

Either they are lying to limit potential liability or they really could not hear how bad the Verb was. Neither conclusions says anything good about LHL.

As much as I tend to agree with you guys, my take in this is as follows;

LH Labs are no headphone or iems specialists and by the comments I observed on their many websites, they perform tests mainly with hi-end headphones they purchased, not designed. So I would take their assessment with a grain of salt. Secondly they do price their devices on the high end of the scale. Call this inflated ego or just purely marketing pricing gimmick in the audio business, either way you can be the judge. What I find interesting in the Wave case is that the sq potential and functions are there but with all their design wizardry, they still seem to struggle on the Wave mechanical properties (like most of their component physical designs, maybe the Vi-DAC being an exception however it's implementation got peppered with many alterations), I believe that's their weakness. To this day, I am still very curious about the shape the Wave will have, taking into consideration that no one has ever seen a single live unit but the board must exist since we've had many reports of the different electrical stages it's going through.

As someone who was thinking about buying that geek wave, this thread has been mildly disturbing yet fairly entertaining.

I remember years ago when I was looking at the indiegogo page which made it look like they had everything set and ready to go.  A fake picture of the geek wave. fake specs. fake everything!  What a scam.

Check this hilarious video out of people listening to the "geek wave prototype":

@jamor...yeah all of us backers fell for the hype. Really? The people never even showed us the device they were listening to. UGH! What an expensive lesson I learned about crowd-funding. Anyway, I'm numb to the pain now and eagerly awaiting an actual Geek Wave.

  Thankfully, I wasn't a Verb IEM backer.

  However tonight's update does appear to be a very sincere make-good on that debacle.

  Good of LHL to want to rectify that situation and correct that big mistake.

I kind of disagree as the shipping is extortionate and there is basically a time limit within which you have to confirm you wish to take advantage of their "apology".

Pretty much like $15 for the IEM and free shipping... isn't it. If they are half way decent, that is not a bad deal.  With luck, I may actually use these. Quite unlike the two sets of Verb that I have gathering dust. I did not even want to give those away to anyone I cared about.

I wonder what the list price will be on these?

In any case, I paid them $30 for two pair.  If they sound OK, it is a good deal.

I went for the $26 to the UK Vibrato offer. I think I might still be the only full review of the Verb, so feel like I can note the improvements and refer back to my own work pretty well. I tore em up in that review, the review had a theme of the outrageous marketing speak on the box. The original Verbs do have a couple things going for them, they have insane frequency response and the magnetic clasp box is quite good for storing IEMs and tips I have that don't have a case. The Verbs roll all the way down to 10hz and go all the way up to 23Khz. I used them as a sort of hearing test at the extremes.

Hopefully I won't have to make fun of their marketing jive on the new Vibrato.

The options went insane on that. It's a good deal of why they have the bad reputation. With the money they were bringing in, the upgrades should have been stretch goals, not pay for play stuff. The sheer amount of possible versions makes manufacturing extraordinarily difficult! No doubt many delays have been caused by trying to make a device that does all these things. I spent less on my X-Infinity than that.

I wanted an AK kicking DAP...as my answer to my showoff friends.

Yep my Geek Pulse Infinity + LPS4 cost less. Have it with me since last May. Very happy with it.
Just sad for those who haven't got theirs (Pulse) yet.

I'm in the same boat...Same feeling that I wanted to get something that was better than AK, also, the seductiveness of the way it was done pulls you in the way "one more hand" pulls in a gambler. You think you ordered the BEST, then for only $100 there is going to be something better, then for only $50 there will be something better, now you're in for bucks, for only $250 more it is the ultimate. Most of us would likely not have gone for the $1800 fully tricked out Wave, but, done incrementally, you don't realize how much you're in for until it's all over. Oh well, my bad, of course, but it's really is a seductive sales pitch, and we fell for it. Hoping it is at least worth the price and wait when it finally comes out (still waiting on a Vi Tube DAC and a Pulse as well, then I'm done!)

$  22USD- 2015 ESS DAC 9018AQ2M Upgrade
$132USD- Upgrade Wave 32 to Wave 64
$  38USD- Standalone DAC Upgrade
$  68USD- Dual ESS 9018M DAC's Upgrade
$148USD- Geek Wave 32

 $ 408

That's all I'm in for. The way the campaign was run was fraudulent. I currently wish that I had bought a Pono. Prove me wrong Larry. You seem to be a stand up guy. I'll never buy a product from a company Gavin or Casey are part of.

I did buy a Pono, it crowdfunded at about the same time as the LH Labs stuff. Glad I did, had something to use through all the waiting (and it is a good little player for not too much dinero).

Basing on my experience on Geek Out and Geek Pulse Infinity, I would be mad on selling it.

Yeah overly delays, but it couldn't be denied that their SQ, Price/Performance (on my experience) are very high.

It will come.
