LG G3 as a portable source?

Mine is nothing like this, the display is gorgeous.
 
There is also an element of BS to that website, if you mouse over their over their scary image of oversharpening you see: "(the picture is not from the G3 - it is just for illustration of the effect)".
 
Another gem from picture 3: "LG’s G3 (compared against the Galaxy S5) has a big and super-sharp, 5.5” display, but it’s a screen that’s hard to read outdoors - it’s dim and reflective, so you’d need to stare with an extra effort to read it correctly". It's so biased I wonder if they had even handled a G3 when they had written that. It is not dim and reflective and you don't have to stare lol. 
 
Maybe some one saw some content that was not compatible with QHD and didn't like the way it looked, who knows. I feel this is a great phone and my M8 is still in the closet until I can sell it. And one of the primary reasons is that after being spoiled by the QHD display it's difficult to use the M8.

 
I'm really wondering how they made this article. I mean, yeah oversharpening is a thing, but I don't notice it myself except in very, very specific instances (my crossword app is one). As for the dimness... did they just leave the autobrightness on and forget? Sure it's not super duper bright in daytime, but I can use it absolutely no problem.

I have read that and don't know what to make of it. I have a Korean F400S and it has none of those issues. I actually went to the bestbuy website they mention and I don't have a halo issue like that.
 
It seems a lot of the posters in that thread are using Verizon or Sprint phones so perhaps there is a software issue with those models. Or some defective panels.

I think those are stupid comparisons.  Over saturated OLED screens are horrible comparisons, it's just a different TYPE of screen.  You pick what you want.  Muted colors of the LCD or the saturated OLED...that's just the way it is with the tech.  Compare it to another LCD like the M8 and it isn't as drastic of a difference, tho I still prefer the M8 to the G3.  Better viewing angles.

I urge ppl to go and see the screens for themselves in order to be satisfied with what they are buying.  I had issues with the old Samsung AMOLED panels in pentile patterns.  I'm more sensitive to this and it annoyed me no end when text would appear less sharp than on LCDs.  I would agree that old AMOLED screens have obvious over saturation but the panels on the S5 have been very good, likewise the M8 SLCD screen also offers nice colors.

TBH the screens of the S5, M8, and G3 are all pretty much the same at a casual look. I saw tests where they were putting water droplets on the things to see pixels or resting them right beside each other in low light for color differentiation. 
 
The G3 is the best screen on paper, but if you can see 540ppi versus 480ppi you have some crazy sharp eyes.

However I have used the new Galaxy Tab S 8.4 that has a new Super Amoled matrix with a very high pixel density and it is spectacular, in fact the best display I have ever used for Netflix and video playback. If the Note 4 display is similar to the Tab S 8.4 it might be a very interesting phone.

I used that for a while too...and it was awesome to look at, but damn if it didn't make everything too small to read at default settings.  So had to return it.  Best screen I've ever seen in a consumer device and I've used about all of them.
 
Anyway, back to the G3 and audio...isn't that what we're all here for?

Running the G3 straight to the SE846 is ridiculously nice. I'm comparing some post rock albums from one to the other and while it's not quite as crisp as my Macbook Pro... it's comically close. For a phone into some easy-driving IEM's I don't think there's a better solution. Been using The Gothernburg Address's self-titled as my reference point and it's hilarious how great it sounds.

I was a bit curious to see if anyone had any data or opinions on the audio quality of the G3 versus the Oppo Find 7 (Both with headphones/IEMS, and speaker). They are on level playing ground on about everything except the camera and audio, and was just wondering if anyone in the community had any feedback on which of the 2 was superior.

I'm very happy the G3 outputs audio via OTG USB with no fuss to the Chord Hugo.  I previously owned the G2, Nexus 5, and Asus Tab, and none worked with the Hugo.
 
The G3's AptX bluetooth output to the Hugo sounds pretty good as well.

I have the G3 and I think sound quality wise, it is very neutral. Nothing surprising but sound a bit dull to me. I don't use it to listen much as I mostly listen music through my Sony ZX-1 which after trying you wouldn't bother to go back to the smartphone route. For those who insist on listening through smartphones, G3's SQ is as good as it can achieve and surely there's always room for improvement but I don't think phone makers will pay more attention to sound than adding extra features or apps to their smartphones.

IMO a neutral source is optimal. Let the headphones add color to the sound, why would you want it any other way?

It is also good to know what kind of audio materials you use to test sound quality. If you play MP3 I am more likely will ignore your opinion. You can give good test only using SACD images. In this case you will certainly recognize advantage of Wolfson chip. So far only S5 model H uses it. Anyway thank guys for your opinion about LG3, it seems a good phone for wife.
