Excellent stuff. Great to see Kekal get some recognition here. They remind me of Absu and Iron Maiden's deranged offspring.

They released a couple of albums on Fear Dark records who are Dutch. Like me! :)

Yeah Fear Dark was an amazing label. Slechtvalk still remains one of my favorite bands and they used to be on Fear Dark before it folded, now they're on Whirlwind

Saw Battle Beast live in Sauna fest. Reallly great! Bought their album afterwards. Unfortunately I found out that listening the album at home really doesnt work. Just generic Heavy Metal that bores me quick. Propably because I am not a heavy metal guy, I admit. At festival however, with couple of beers in my blood, the music kicked ass! Loved their gig!

wish i could get their album for a reasonable price somewhere here in the states, the only option i could find was their website which after conversion to dollars and including shipping was almost 30 bucks :frowning2:

Wow! I am amazed. Dream Theater sounds better than EVER:

This is just fantastic. I am long time Dream Theater fan but I have not listened to them of late. The last album was blah and I haven't been that excited about DT since maybe the Train of Though album.

Portnoy left, I say now so what? This guys are immensely talented and still part of the core prog metal set of bands.

That's not bad at all, surely better than the average material on their last album, however i don't particularly like the guitar work on their later material, it has become a sort of hybrid between the heavier riffing of Train of Thought and their first works, this track is a tiny step in a better direction, we'll see when the full album comes out.

I've just come across these guys from Germany, i'm not a great fan of the genre but this album seems awesome.

The sad part was I saw a lone t shirt of theirs in Hot Topic once, but I still love them to death

Seriously starting to get into the Thrash Revival bands like Evile and Gama Bomb(my two favorites, anyway).

I absolutely love this album. Some will scoff at how ambient and hipster BM it is but screw you I like it

That's an awesome album by one of my favorite bands,  i've also got "Ashes" and "Marrow", which are great as well but the heavy folk overtones on "The Mantle" really make it special, instrumentals as good as "The Hawthorne Passage" are rare to find.

Oh goodie, an instrumental talk. NOW FOR RECOMMENDATIONS NO ONE ASKED FOR.

For guitar solos, definitely check out some John 5; I swear, he rips so hard he tears off five heads every song he plays.

Going into some older, hard rock stuff, Focus' Hocus Pocus is great, and I think the yodeling is the most brutal thing ever.

Acoustic instrumentals aren't as hard to find. While it is just a version of a patriotic song, Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society's version of America the Beautiful is, well, beautiful.

And for good old fashioned metal songs, Metallica's instrumentals are an easy recommendation, but Iron Maiden's four are all better, in my honest opinion; Genghis Khan is my favorite of them all.

AND AS FOR OTHER INSTRUMENTS SOLOS....

Bass:

I love Agalloch so much. I've had The White EP laying around for ages but never got around to listening to it until now. These guys never cease to amaze me... have had the album on repeat for the last 2 days.

As for instrumentals, Periphery is the sex.

Bright treble wears me down a bit, but it's always good to visit Demonaz/Immortal once in a while
