You and I speak the same language. Really like that type of Tech Death!

and for something a bit heavier, The Deterioration of the Minds by Soreption is amazing as well.

I don't see why there's so much love for Agalloch btw, they just sound to me like another dreary post-rock shoegazer band. nvm.

Them's fightin' words.

Lol are you gonna back that up with something meaningful little man?  Get back to me when your eloquence doesn't fail you (put away the toy sword and sharpen your pencil).  btw for you, I'm going to listen to the entire Agalloch album if it's all up on the toob.  I respect your passion.  I trust you respect mine.

btw here's something dreary that I really like.  I hope you hate it, Philistines.  It's not metal, but it's black, and heavy.

I think negakinu should like it.  I hope you are settling into to your new cave.

I didn't expect such a harsh rebuttal.

Anyway, I didn't enjoy the new Dillinger, but I don't really enjoy dillinger that much, save for the patton EP. I would like to see them live, however, and I almost did, but the venue was 18+ like every good metal show should be.

The song you posted was cool, I'll go find their album.

Also, I heard this today, and I rather enjoy it.

Thanks Trogs, I appreciate the tips.  I pretty much listen to everything that's posted here.  I'll try Kvelertak again.  I am often too quick to judge, like most of us I guess.

Btw go see DEP if you get the chance. I've heard musicians who don't like their music say they are the best live band they have seen. They are genuine showmen imo.

I will try.  The problem is I can never get into the Deftones no matter how hard I try...on paper, I should like them, but I don't....

Kvelertak has a lot of sludge elements to it so I thought you might really dig it.  Its just a really *fun* album.  Try it again and let me know.

Right now I got lined up for so far in 2011 (in terms of shows):  Agalloch, Sepultura, and Symphony X (Soilwork and Nevermore are also playing this show as opening acts, its gonna rock anyway you look at it)....

@ Bob, but you were expecting something eh.  You're comments were a bit out of the blue too y'know.  I was just saying I don't get them, so it can be inferred that it's my problem anyways, never said they were crap.  Don't worry about it, I have some antisocial habits.

A lot of people can't stand Gregs (DEP) voice, but I think he is incredibly talented.  I like my music to be challenging to say the least.

Yeah, Boduf Songs is to me at times an acoustic equivalent of Black/Doom metal.  Implied metal, like Morphine were implied grunge, lol.  I can easily imagine some of the songs translated thus.  The new album is only on vinyl (< this I have) and download at the moment, but a cd is coming.  It's pretty underground stuff, only a handful of songs are up on the toob.

@ Bob & Trog, Maybe just catch DEP at a festival or something.  For a laugh if nothing else (c:

edit: dammit, I missed my 666th post

What a coincidence! When I got back from Berlin last week my friend there gave me this Boduf Songs album. He told me I was gonna get into them like a madman. I still haven't listened to it properly though. I just back from Sweden today and coming week is all about moving my crap to the new batcave. It's coming along nicely, thanks for your concern. :) Gonna post some pics of my home-office as soon as it's finished. It's gonna be all necro-chique with quasi-occult quotes in golden Reichs-fonts on the walls. Ha! \m/

I did like that Cloudkicker track as well. Is that that new Djent genre-thingy? It's a bit loopy but the drumcomputer sounds good and it's got this groovy repetition I like. Reminds me slightly of Alchemist's and Soilwork's baby.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this yet. IMO it's better than anything on their very lackluster previous album, but at least the youtube version sounds awfully thin to my ears. On PFV the guitars were completely buried in the mix (gee, metal album, who would possibly want audible guitars?). Hopefully the album version sounds better than this. The song itself I don't think is bad.

Not to offend, but Devildriver are, to me, the textbook example of mediocrity in metal. Everything about them is so generic and predictable. All I hear is Protools, some quantized riffs and beats glued together with that wannabe Dez shouting through the compressor set to +11. There is no songwriting! Even the bandname is silly. "DUR DUR I LIKE DEVILS DUR DUR AND I HAVE A CAR DUR DUR". I always imagine Devildriver to appeal most to same demography that has an Insane Clown Posse shirt lying around somewhere. And not in an ironic way.

In that same genre, I think Lamb of God era "Ashes of the Wake" is so much better. Or even the first Unearth release.

I noticed I keep burning everyone's favourite band lately. I'm sorry. It's just what I do. I am das brutals.

First of all, Devildriver is hardly my favorite band. I think the ICP connection is a bit of a stretch. For Coal Chamber fans though, sure. As for Devildriver, I thought their debut was pretty bland metalcore. Fury and Last Kind Words though are, IMO, enjoyable metal albums that might appeal to fans of bands like Pantera, as opposed to Trivium or Mudvayne. Sophisticated? No, but if I wanted to listen to Eternal Tears of Sorrow or Opeth, well then I'd put that on instead. I have enough room to enjoy more than just the deepest and most thought provoking progressive metal. That's not to say I'm going to start enjoying Puddle of Mudd or Drowning Pool, I have to draw the line somewhere

That said, DD's last effort was a piece of crap, with horrible song writing, uninteresting riffs, and bad production. If Beast is more of the same (we'll see), then I may have to write them off for good as I did In Flames. Soilwork I think managed to right the ship before it was too late, but IF has already sunk to the bottom.

What is it with you guys and Eternal Tears of Sorrow? I bought Chaotic Beauty back in 2000 (I was sixteen back then, you do the math) and really liked it at the time. When I listen to it now it's just pleasant, straight-forward melodic Finnish metal. Am I missing out? Is their new material more progressive, since you mentioned Opeth?

Oh, on a totally unrelated note. I just received my set of Brainwavz ProAlpha IEMs (rebranded Visang R02) I bought for $15 on sale and I ****ing love them for black metal! Trebly crap like Drudkh sounds wonderfully smooth and wide on these babies. It's not as detailed as my RE0 but it's just heaps of fun and has a warm and laid-back signature that makes you forget you're wearing IEMs and let's you just rock out to the trebly tunes. Best $15 I ever spent on audio period. They're $40 now, which is still a good deal if you ask me.

Seriously, everyone keeps asking me "what are good sub $100 IEM's for metal". These are awesome and are sub-$50!

Negakinu's grim stamp of approval.

They are pretty different than they used to be. Chaotic Beauty could be a Noumena or even an old Norther album. They aren't Opeth and are still more melodic/power than they are progressive. I was just using them as an example of something that's definitely not Devildriver.
