Lets Talk Metal

I like Ghost Reveries more than Blackwater Park. Perhaps it's because it's really progressive which I love, and Akerfeldt uses his clean voice a bit more which I think adds a nice contrast with the death vocals, especially when used in the same song. There is a special edition of Ghost Reveries that also comes with the 5.1 recording as well.

Despite being a metal fan for the past 26 years I somehow had never really heard Armored Saint. I always liked John Bush's voice but was never a an Anthrax fan, and I always liked Joey Vera's playing in Fates Warning and thought his solo album was cool so I just picked up some Armored Saint discs. I'm glad I did, it's more straight forward metal than I had imagined but it's good stuff.

You ever go back to some old faves after not listening to them for a while and go "oh yeah these guys ARE f'n good!"

case in point.. Pantera.. was never a gigantic fan and still am not, but man, Dimebag can shred and vinnie can slam those drums! Something in that family worked well together

RIP Daryll.

A New Level may have one of the greatest intros in metal

I have that happen occasionally, but I find more often I'll return to an album, or buy something off eBay that I loved but lost only to say to myself "wow this is terrible, what was I thinking".

Haahaa yes! This happens to me often, digging back through the archives. I have seen Pantera twice. The second time I caught a drum skin and then scuffled with a dude for it..heehehe...it's bent and ripped but it hase the rebel flag Pantera logo painted on it and it is autographed by Vinnie. Awesome...

Funny you should mention Armored Saint. I'm off to see them and Death Angel play on Sunday, despite never having heard either. It's 80's thrash though, so I can't see how I can possibly be disappointed.

Then Monday night (What?) I get to see the mighty Necrophagist (plus some others). I really like the sound these guys put out, but watching them shred live will be insane.

Anybody here a fan of grind? I've been listening to Carcass and Cattle Decapitation, and I'm looking for more, similarly technical, grind. Not interested in Pornogrind whatsoever.

I am not really a fan of grindcore, have heard some bands I can't remember right now. I prefer some Deathcore, though. Job for a Cowboy are an example of that.

RIP Randy.

I have the album on vinyl...Mr Crowley and Crazy Train are awesome tracks, even if i think the rest of the album is not on the same level...Ozzy's departure from Sabbath brought us two great albums in 1980 : Blizzard and H&H with Dio....about Dio...anybody else looking forward to the new Heaven and Hell ? I't going to come out in April if i remember correctly...

I like very limited metal songs like Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, Black Rose Immortal, Windowpane, Coil etc.. (but like these a LOT)

I guess I like symphonic?

Can someone suggest more music in a similar style?
