lets compile a list of headphones that fried up through old age (not breaking cables, not spilling phones into coffee etc, just old age effects). i want to see what kinda headphones die often among members...hehe

My AKG 414p's would only last about 4 months before they died. Luckily they have two year warranty.

I also have a pair of sennhieser hd212 that are now into their 5th year of good working operation.

My headphones didn't die of old age...they just disappeared one way or another.

my shockwave vmss headphones(and walkman): stolen from me after 2 weeks of enjoyment...bought the extended warranty too

ER-6i: Murdered by my dog. She likes the taste of earwax.

Shure E500: my "body oils" were responsible for cracking the cables on this one and rendering them useless.

my poor wallet.

Manufactured in the mid-70's, bought by me in 2007 and died in 2008.

Headband revived as part of an SR-X/MK3 Pro, while the rest were sold as parts.

My Sony MDRex71sl lasted 5 years before one headphonechannel died, after so long a period of service, I decided it had deserved some rest!
Shure e3c lasted 1 month, and got the same problem

The right channel of my ER6is conked out a few months ago. They only lasted five or six months.

Does anyone know if the ER4P or ER4S is more durable? The cable on the ER6is was probably the problem.

My 35 year old Koss Pro 4AA's are half-dead. They tend to short out (must be a loss connection) sometimes. I don't use them hardly at all, but I just can't bring myself to toss 'em.

None of my other cans have ever died on me (knock on wood).

I had my er6-i's for almost a year and going strong before they met their untimely demise at the hands (jaws) of my dog.

EDIT: stupid question, but have you ever replaced the filters on those er6-i's of yours?
