My desk space is still a mess!
The HD-414 were my dad’s, and when he passed away I was given a bag of “wires and stuff” by my mum, and these were in there.
I’ve fitted new pads, and a balanced cable, and they are surprisingly good, with iFi Zen Can. I’m glad I resurrected them.

Getting foam hair rollers. Removing the wire core & splitting in half (by length).

Then stuffing it into the inner-side gaps of the earpads. Works like the old Dekoni Attenuation rings. Increasing the bass and and vocals a step. Of course it is not guaranteed to be a reasonable change for all headphones, but I really love it on my HD800S.

Tuning changes aside, this can also work in a pinch for collapsing earpads on headphones. For people waiting on their new pads to arrive whole still using their old ones collapsed.

Wow super clever 👍 Now, which color sounds better? 😉

For real, this could definitely resuscitate compressed pads and serve as a fun project to experiment without any destructive work to the headphone. Great hack! 🦾🦾

If you got some portable gear you like to use in multiple spots.

Apply the soft side of some velcro strip on to the device. And apply the hook rough ends on the multiple locations you like to use it at other places.

With the desktop gear:

EDIT: Oh yeah, as Eric said, you can velcro your dac dongles to your phone cases. Or to the phone itself.
Though some of those dongles can get hot.

HD800 is one the greatest modding cans out there. So much fun modding them! :)
Sanding, washing, priming, painting, outlining, SDR MOD, My own foam mod, Cable mod, grill mod, headband mod, etch....,

I hope Senny can release a "Fun Flagship" that is customizable and modable. Like RAAL but better, way better. Custom drivers, custom parts, custom tuning, everything.
A true futuristic modular flagship that is user friendly.

Love the paint jobs!

Years ago I got to take a tour of the Colorware factory and see how they customized the HD 800 with their unique application process. They mentioned that Sennheiser's were a dream to work on because they were so modular :)

Keep up the great work and please share other future mods!

Here's one I've been doing for a while, very convenient. Attach a bull clip to the edge of a desk (assuming one has the option), then remove the top one by squeezing the sides. IMG_20220707_071827~2.jpg
Put whichever desired cable through the nice gap, then insert it back in the slots. Not only is it organized, can pull the needed cable to the amp/DAC/etc. Not pictured, but have put multiple adapter wires through to keep station neat & tidy. I opted in this example to thread through only one of the clips, folded the other under the table, but to each their own.

Cheers 🦇
That's neat!

I have a simple but effective addition to your altoid tin use. I have been buying inexpensive felt liner with adhesive on Amazon and lining candy tins with it. I have the round ones that have become my favorite iem cases! Cheaper than a new case, and you get some delicious candy as well! Less than 30 minutes work to line the tin.
Thanks for this thread; I look forward to benefiting from other head-fiers’ ingenuity!

Does that have much effect to the clamping force? If so, win win for me with the HD700
