Netsufer,

D-515 is a perfect pcdp since it has esp (Electronic Shock Protection) except for its weight and eating up of battery. It's sound should be listed in the same class as D-303.

I totally agree.... They (303 & 515) are in the same class as the almighty D-555.

Purk,

I never had a D-555 (D-Z555). I am trying to grab one from Yahoo Japan. Hope that the final price won't be too high.

Millerdog,

Grados are good matches to walkman because of their low impedance. But W100 also has low impedance. Anyway, I think a quality amp is a must for any full-sized headphone to pair a walkman.

Does anyone know anything about the sony D421sp?
It's one of those big bulky sports cd players from 1993. The sound seems pretty good and has seperate line/headphone out, the headphone out's able to drive my hd600's to ungodly volumes unlike my other sony cd player, it seems to be at least 2x louder than the current sony cd players if not more, i think either the pot's misaligned or it's really that loud cause at 0 volume, it sounds like 1/4th volume on the new sony.
The laser pickup seems to be like that of the older sony cd players (the large round light blue lens instead of the smaller dark blue ones).

I'm wondering if anyone's having trouble with reading lightly scratched cd's or cdr's. This thing has trouble reading cd-r's with ESP on (probably because it can't read faster than 1x) and regular cd's that are lightly scratched. W/O ESP, i can play cdr's and scratched cd's but i can hear the scratches, is anyone else having this problem with their old players as a normal function or is it because mine's broken?

Do you find that your old players chew through batteries like nothing?

FYI, I have heard from friends or Internet that the legendary denon PCDPs to have are
biggrin.gif
CP-50¡BDCP-70¡BDCP-100¡BDCP-150. However, I have never seen them in real life nor their pictures. Can anyone help?

Hi,
I used to own the Denon DCP-70?? It was flimsy built. Denon signature on their PCDP (or my player alone) is very acurate sounding. It was twice the thinckness of my D-303 and 1.5 times ticker than my d-555. The built quality is not first rated. The chassis is made from polycarbonate, and steel. Never did try the line out.

Redshifter,
I do not collect any walkman, but from what I've heard...the DD9 is the best sounding, and the best built portable cassette player of all time. Maybe Aiwa JX-3000 as well.

D-EJ01 / E01 (1999)

All listed above have very good sound quality.

Now I prefer D-515 even to D-303.

So I collected all of the above (even the D-E905 & D-E900, D-555 & D-Z555, D-25 &D-25S, D-5 in Black & Red) in 3 months and multiples of each, some brand new, never used...

Not to mention about 50 other ones including the 1000, 2000, D-NE10, D-NE20 and D-88 and a ton of others...

Now what? Just keep it? Oh, you know what I am missing? A D-626. Anyone want to sell for like $500? and then my collection will be complete and buried in a time capsule until the year 2222. Hopefully they will still have CDs and batteries. If not, they can go in a SONY PCPD museum somewhere. LOL.
