LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

Nice system and dedication. This might shock some people – pricewise and otherwise. I’ve noticed women have excellent hearing … with some science to back it up.
Needless to say I was very surprised. I was doubting what I heard which is when I enlisted my wife. She has no idea of the equipment price points, and I didn't tell her which DAC she was listening too; I just switched inputs at different intervals during the same track. Zero bias possible on her part.

I’ve enlisted my wife and others many times to verify my own thoughts. Whilst she is not interested in gear, she can pick out differences – a common term is ‘crisper’, when something sounds better. A very descriptive opinion below rather than comparative.

Chinese – goggle should translate nicely :

I will be still asking. Which port are the best on laiv? Usb, I2S?
And when I'm use R26 I'm using Ifi Zen Stream via USB plays very good, but when I'm plug Coaxial this connection was been very smoothly, analog very very good. And here is a question IFI Neo Stream will be fine?someone have a answer for me. I know some people having problem with zen, I never had any issues. Mayby Neo Stream is a good way
I think the Neo Stream works great as a streamer.

Have you tried trying the lower upsampling rates? I found the second from the top was really good.

Although DAC SQ differences are often overestimated, speaker and room differences are often orders of magnitude greater, so other speakers/rooms may give completely different results.
All true. However...

You can control the acoustics of your room, change the placement of your speakers. Most of those things have to do with amplitude. Meaning frequency response. DACs all measure ruler flat. So we're talking different dimensions here.

There's nothing you can do to improve your DAC with adding a carpet. Getting your acoustics right in combination with your speakers placement is a prerequisite. Reverberation time at about 0.5s. But once you done that, the dac does make a big difference.

Music starts with the source. And the dac has to get timings right.

Tonight I took my old Ares II Out again and did a quick comparison:
1 Rose RA250 ESS9038q2m vs
2 Ares R2R vs
3 Laiv Harmony R2R.
My acoustics aren't perfect but controlled. Speakers are far from any wall. And it was surprising how they sound the same but how different the experience is.
The 9038 sounded good but rather flat, a bit coarse and superficial. Like a person you don't really want to get to know, not interesting.
The Ares sounded smooth and had interesting features. Depth and nuance. Someone you could easily be good friends with.
Then the Harmony, ow wow! Everything sounds so attractive. Depth, texture, color shades, nothing distracting from the good qualities. Someone you could fall in love with.
The love at first sight kind however is my vinyl setup.
All with the same speakers and amps (I made my own speakers so that's pretty much tuned to my taste and no cheesy parts).

I'm already sell R26, and I was buy LAiV. But I'm already.sell speakers to, and wait for Qualio IQ Ultra. Laiv should be came to me 3-7 days. Qualio 4 weeks thats will be very hard time. I'm.not patience person
What a combo. The IQ Ultras look and sound (from YT clips) like the bee's knees. What amp will you use to drive em?

it looks as if I'll be selling an excellent condition Chord stack. 😀
Imho MS+TT2 excells by really not messing up the bit perfect (filters do that) and then using toslink input, not usb.

For Mscaler DC feed, the linear PS is as good as its capability to beat noise, way more that a stable voltage. Rob Watts believes many lin PS are exactly weak at this point. Depends on the brand I suppose. A battery works best (and not just any powerbrick) immediately eliminating the optimisation need for ferrited dual BNC's. Yeah too bad that counts too, some Achilles heels alright in the Chord stack 🤷🏻.

I recently had an epiphany that the bee's knees is slang for 'the business'. As in; he means business. Like I just learned where flabbergasted comes from... (from Dutch sailors seeing a flying bat, fladdergast).

I love those speakers too. For their design philosophy. Open baffle basically fullrange with the aid of a fast AMT with a big woofer. Basically what I made for myself only I use seperate subwoofers.
