Tried the 909 just before getting these. Not even in the same ballpark IMO, these are some of my favourite headphones I have ever used, second only to empyreans

I have no idea about Klipsch doing driver repair and replacing pads but they have been discontinued for years so unikely. I wanted the T909 but considering the price, I dropped it. HP-3 still remains one of my most favorite headphones.

I've designed and made mounting rings for the HP3 (link: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5344396) and fitted brainwavz XL hybrids on them. They sound very similar to the stock pads, but because they are larger in every aspect, it's alot more comfy to wear! As for the driver replacement, I'm not too sure about that... :/

100% I do. In almost every way. I suppose the th909 was a bit clearer, but I prefer the heavier bass of the hp3

Thanks for explaining. I've asked about that comparison because I adore TH900MK2 (and TH909 too!) for rock and heavy stuff in general, but I've been reading about these Klipsch cans for a while now and now am thinking about them more than before

It depends entirely on the price. It probably won't move that fast if it's more than $800-$900, judging from ebay/AVExchange history. But if you are patient you could probably get more for it.

No idea really. If I didn't have my HP-3, I would have bought one quickly. It depends on people too, like if they only care about the most expensive headphones, then they will pass on the HP-3. As for me, I'm this type of person that collects unique headphones and the HP-3 is one of them. But...if my current situations were all fine, I would have bought the black set too. Walnut and Ebony are both gorgeous to me.

The HP-3s still are an outstanding pair of headphones - no question asked (the included stand or packaging alone smokes the competition!), but for me the pinnacle of Fostex/Foster driver-based headphones still might be the Fostex TH-909.
Without any EQ applied, the TH-909 just sounds clearer, more defined and exiting than the HP-3 (stronger, but loosened bass), but the HP-3 nicely bends the soundstage around you and provides an interesting holographic "live" experience. With EQ you can greatly "improve" the HP-3 further, but you will not get all the details, nuanced bass notes and layering of the TH909s.
So sad that Klipsch decided not to continue with the HP-3 or release a successor.

I'd have loved them to continue making headphones tbh. They're just so good!
