I have yet to see or hear a rapper-phone that can legitimately stand up to the K1000. They're better than the K701 imho, and they walk up and down the K550, so yeah.

Out of curiosity, have you heard either of the AKGs I mentioned? Or the Sennheiser HD 580/600/650 family?

Hmmm, thats hard to say. As good as a D5000 maybe, but not better. K701, same level, not better, except bass. Well, you just made me very curious. I might get them. Thanks

I would regard the Kenwoods as better than both of those - they have better extension and low-end than the K701 (and aren't as abnormally large in the soundstage), and are less tubby/boomy than the Denons (with a more 3D soundstage). Sure, I might be overly dismissive towards rapper cans, but I've yet to try one that can both produce good bass and that has a soundstage of any size. I'm also fairly turned off to AKG after some of their recent releases and the overall Harmonization.

The K1000 will be most similar to the HD 600. Less veiled/dark, more bass impact, better soundstage, and you've basically got'em (they're also a bit different through the midrange and with voicing, mostly as a result of the different soundstaging).

I'm looking to grab a pair of these to replace my AKG K550s if anyone is on the fence about selling...
 
Probably should have purchased these the first time around but I wanted to see what slightly warm of "accurate" was supposed to sound like with the K550s.
