Hi all.

I have just received my Kennerton planar Thekk SN 001 headphones, which joins my Thror SN 001 headphones. :)

My Kennerton Thekk headphones is a special version, made of stabilized "two-tone" Karelian birch wood: the weight is measured on my scale at 390 g; the versions made of unstabilized wood are 20 to 40 g lighter, or about 350-370 g. My Thror in bog oak wood weighs 470 g, and my Odin mk2 in unstabilized Karelian birch wood, weighs 680 g...

More pictures of the Thekk, here (in spoiler below).

Note: I also received a very nice Vectura C cable made of Litz wire, 2 m 50 long, with Furutech connectors; cable handmade by Pierre Paya; it will perfectly fit with my Thekk, in addition with the Thror, also equipped with the same Vectura C cable.

Next steps, the listening of the Thekk versus Thror, but not for several days, time to recover from my emotions!

to be continued...

Hi all, again.

Three generations of Kennerton planar headphones in this picture.

19112502405923553816526331.jpg

Right: Kennerton Odin mk2 (natural, unstabilized, but lacquered Karelian birch): weight 680 g.

Middle: Kennerton Thror (SN 001) (in bog oak): weight 470 g.

Left: Kennerton Thekk (SN 001) (in stabilized "two-tone" Karelian birch): weight of this special version: 390 g (Nb: the other versions must weigh 20 to 40 g less).

Custom Kennerton cable for the Odin mk2, and Vectura C cable from Pierre, for the Thror and Thekk.

The last arrived of these three planar Kennerton headphones : this original and unique Kennerton Thekk in stabilized Karelian birch ; a very high-tech planar headphone ; it's the Pro version of the Thror : at least the same performance, but in lighterweigt and cheaper ; more user-friendly and convenient to use (than the Thror) for several persons with different size for the head.

The hardest part remains to be done, listen in particular to the Thekk and the Thror, on the Viva 2A3 amp.

Tonight, for pleasure! :)

Hi.

Kennerton Magni or Audio Technica ATH W1000X ?

Audio-Technica-ATH-W1000X_P_600.jpg

Magni-Karelian-Birch.jpg

Two closed back headphones of a fairly close price.

The Kennerton Magni would be the winner if we believe the happy french owner of these two closed back headphones.
Quote (after translation):
"To answer you Eric, the Magni is burying my technica audio on every point. Better airy (aeration), wider soundstage, deeper and cleaner low frequencies, and softer and less loud high frequencies; the midrange is also more pleasant. In short, audio technica, despite all the good services provided, cannot compete. And I would even say that the HD650 sennheiser is also swept even in aeration and soundstage."

Softer and recessed highs could be a negative though. Magni could have a bit more it wouldn´t hurt. It will be a project with EQ trying to get the treble. It´s there but a bit recessed.
It was ages since I listened to the W1000x probably more then a decade. I don´t recall it being very dynamic but quite good with female vocals. A bit surprised about the soundstage that is not a strong point for the Magni I feel. Having it in your face can be great for some genres like rock though or anytime you really want to feel the music :)
But it appear to have some issues with imaging like most magnetplanar I tried. But I still absolutely love what they do. I am just waiting for my first impressions to be totally off but no it performs also on bad ear days.

I returned the Denon AH-D7200 today. I liked that a lot too it´s tonal balance is not all that difference but it´s just to tame in comparison. It don´t have this volcanoe sound mat coming from nowhere and is to little of a drama queen when called upon is my main complaint. Soundstage on that is a bit better though despite it´s a tad smaller in size but it just feels like a kitten in comparison. Magni is a tiger. Or it´s the opposite as kittens has endless energy to terrorize their surroundings and does not tire easilly :p

Sorry, but this first comparison (Kennerton Thekk vs Thror) has just been written in French (my mother tongue) and can be read on the French forum at this link: https://musique-o-casque.com/viewtopic.php?p=4285#p4285 , but the conclusion can be made in English: it is probably the best Pro open headphones ever designed, which should interest Professionals, but also and especially audiophiles and music lovers, as the qualities of these headphones are so great, including (and especially) compared to those of his big brother, the Kennerton Thror, the current flagship of the Kennerton brand. :)

I love the style. Reminds me of my Vali's but yours look even nicer.

Your new Vali 2019 in picture below is also very beautiful, in the same quality of wood that mine. :)
After, the very fine details of the stabilized Karelian birch wood, very rich, are all the better seen and highlighted, if you look at them very closely, with also a very good camera; my cameras and camera optics are not as good as those of @ithilienrp, but probably better than the Valentin's smartphone!

Vectura C Litz wire cable made by Pierre Paya (Litz Wire Copper), is great, both for the Kennerton Thror and the Thekk.
This is the same quality litz wire cable used to cable Viva Audio amplifiers and speakers.

Viva amp (2A3 and 845) are great to drive all Kennerton planar headphones.
