KEF M500/M200 Impressions Thread

For my Canadian fellows, amazon.ca has the M500 at 272 $CAN (regular 350), since a couple of days. Don't know for how long though. I think I'll have to find a reason for adding them to my collection... and some money!

Ohhh, thanks for that. If the prices are the same tomorrow, I'm jumping in.

You would have to answer this question for yourself after you've heard the m200. It doesn't seem like you have if you don't get my statement.

I don't have to hear them. I'm a human being and my hearing can't pick up sound further down than about 18hz. After that, I just hear the air being moved by the drivers. The M200 can have more sub-bass than the M500 absolutely, but there is no way you can actually hear lower bass notes on the M200.

It's like with the Audeze cans, people talk so much about how deep they go. And yes, I've seen the drivers move at 2hz, but I sure can't hear any difference in depth compared to the M500 (sure can hear a big difference in quality though). If anything, the M500 actually has a little bit of a sub-bass boost, which makes it feel like it goes lower.

Well if you feel you don't need to hear both, I don't need to carry on this discussion. As I stated, there's more bass in the m200.

The M500 bass extends all the way down. There is no roll off that I hear at all.

No, that's not the statement you made and that's not the statement that I commented on.

"The M200 and M500 signatures aren't anything alike. The M200 has massive clear, tight punchy bass detailed bass, but it's not IE8 bass (which I found kind of muddy... I heard the IE8 and IE80 bass are the same). So, detailed yes, but I wouldn't call the M200 analytical. And the bass is much deeper (provided you get a good seal) in the M200 than the M500." <<<<<< My statements. I have no idea what you're commenting on, but my statements stand (having heard and owning both).

I feel like you're trying to bait me into some silly argument, but you can argue on your own. Have a good a day.

Just wondering how anything can extend "much deeper" regarding bass than this: (M500 frequency response)

I hear the bass go deeper in the M200 over the M500. Can someone explain this since the graph people think otherwise?

Hi guys i thought you could help me here:

I got a B&W P7 from work and I am loving the sound so far. However, I don't need another can for home use as I already have the D7100 and the X1 but I need a portable set.

I used to have the P5 for that use but never digged the SQ on these so I am debating to get the M500. The P7, while having phenomenal SQ, are just to big for me to use on the go. The M500 would be exactly what I want in a portable can, but you guys are reporting of poor isolation and leakage which is a no go for a portable.

So how does isolation and leakage compare to the P5 as they were quite good in that department? And would you guys recommend keeping the P7 or going for the M500 (plus getting 100€ on top).

Unfortunately I can't test the M500 before purchasing...what are your suggestions?

I liked the SQ on the M500s much better than the P7. The isolation is about the same which is kind of poor.
