I used a razor blade to remove the black rubber. You have to be careful not to cut any of the semi-transparent plastic. Only cut the black rubber.

As far as the length, it is the same length as stock. It gets fully inserted. No need for me to measure.

As far as it getting stuck and not being able to be removed, I have inserted and removed the adapter about 10 times so far. It fits perfectly, like it was made for the M500. If you can insert and remove the stock plug, then you can insert and remove the DIY adapter. It has the same dimensions.

As far as the semi-transparent plastic casing, yes it is thin and flimsy. That's why I said in my post above that "The only caveat is that they are somewhat fragile. They appear to be able to stand up to normal use, but if you’re overly rough with them or put a lot or stress on them they could break apart. However, if I break one who cares, as they only cost $1 each and take 30 seconds to remove the rubber covering."

I'd recommend to spend the $1 and get one of the adapters. Then you can check it out in person. When you can see it and hold it with your own hands, I think it would clear up any questions. Photos can only do it justice to a point.

My additional 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapters M500 arrived from Aliexpress, and I wanted to post a little more information about how to remove the rubber covering.

Here’s what I use. They’re very sharp and very fine tipped wire cutting pliers (also bought from Aliexpress for a few dollars):


I slip the end of the wire cutters under the rubber cover, like this:


Then I snip it:


Now I carefully peel back the rubber cover, and work it a little bit at a time. Snipping a few mms at a time and peeling, snipping a few more mms at a time and peeling some more:




Be very aware of what you’re snipping. Make sure you don’t snip or nick the translucent white plastic. Only snip the black rubber.

Also, resist the temptation to “rip” the rubber off by using the plug adapter for leverage. That will stress the 90 degree part of the adapter, and could possibly damage the fragile connection “guts”/wiring inside. Only use the pliers to remove the black rubber, and only by snipping and peeling a few mms at a time. It’s a fairly slow and tedious process.

Once you’ve snipped up a little beyond the 90 degree elbow section, the 2.5mm plug part just slides out of the whole rubber sleeve. In other words, you don’t need to cut the rubber at the 2.5mm plug; it will slide out very easily. If it doesn’t, don’t force it, but rather keep snipping a few mms and peeling the black rubber until the 2.5mm plug comes loose.



Done!

I then usually add a piece of heat shrink tubing to the bottom.


But honestly, I’ve found that the heat shrink tubing isn’t absolutely necessary. It’s primarily there for looks, and might provide some additional piece of mind. It certainly can’t hurt anything, so you may as well add it.

Hello. I have bought KEF M200 based on this forum. Subbass can go very deep, and the quality of bass is amazing, mids are very detailed, natural anf resolved, treble is good extended, I think Sony MH1 have a little bit more sparkle and sweetness but overall KEF M200 are amazing.

It is possible to upgrade them in region of bass, highs under 200 dollars?

I am courious did anybody compare KEFM200 with:

What are differences in bass, mids, highs, separations, soundstage.

Did you have iems that sounds better?

I don’t even use the stock tips. I use generic silicone wide bore tips. I’m not sure if they came from eBay or Aliexpress, but I just went though my collection of tips and found some that fit perfectly.

Thanks. I'll check eBay for wide bore silicone tips. I'm ambivalent about the Comply's. They make them more isolating but also too bassy and rolled off for my liking.

Agreed. That’s why I prefer wide bore silicone tips. They balance out the sound. I use a shallow insertion, which helps keep the bass from being too overpowering. Although that will vary with individual ear anatomy.
