JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

Quick question:

I am looking at pictures of the RX900 on buy.com and for some reason, it looks so much more luxurious and tougher than the 700's..
Is this true?

And which is better for listening to hip hop/R&B. The 700 or 900?

The RX900 is the bassier of the two. However, it's almost too bassy and just floods everything else.

If you catch Beyerdynamics phones on sale, try them. I like the dt440

what kind of headphones does the RX700 compete with and how do they compare with the Audio-Technica ATHES7 ?

The only phone to clearly surpass the RX700 is the DX3, IMO. I do prefer the RX900 for some kinds of music. Though both the 700 and 900 play nicely off a DAP, they both benefit greatly with amping. I also think the RX900 is the superior phone for synthsized surround. In order of overall SQ:
DX3
RX700
RX900

Although the DX1 and DX3 have piqued my interest, both the RX700 and RX900 are roughly 1/3rd and 1/2 the price of the DX series, respectively. The RX700 seems very hard to beat in terms of price/performance but it all depends on the limit of one's budget. When going into $100 range, we're looking at the AD700, MS1, D1001, SR-60, SR-80, ATH-M50, Q40, HD280 among others, as the usual suspects--depending on one's music choice, open/closed preference, or supra/circum preference.

Is the quality the same as a full flac file? or is it dumbed down like youtube

Highly unlikely it was a true flac file but I could be wrong. I'm thinking that the original file was flac which imeem then used an embedded music format, like Youtube.
