JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

looks like you can buy rx900 pads for 15$, guess it just makes more sense to buy the 900s, ill still email JVC to see if theyll just send them out

Does this HP bowl pad completely cover all your ears (ex:Beyerdynamic DT770 and up, Sony V600, etc), so your ears are basically inside the bowl? Or is it just a little bit sitting on the very edge top and bottom ear (Sony V150, Sony V700DJ)? My friend might be interested in buying one and he is looking for headphone that really covers his ear completely.

Yeah, same for the 700s. The 900 and 700 have the same size everything.

I would buy the RX700 and then the $15 pads. Normally I wouldn't buy anything for a heaphone that cost half what the headphone does, but this is an exception. Its really more like a $200 headphone, so $15 for quality comfy goodness to match its sound is a good deal.

I honestly think the 700 is better, so getting the 900 just for the pads would be a bad idea in my opinion.

Although I could see how the 900s would be fantastic for movies. Might have to check that out. Although my surround sound system for my TV cost 25 times what the 900s did so I'd like to use that. I don't need these JVCs showing up anymore of my equipment.

Guess I will try butyl rubber,Tp4 and foam, It will be my last attempt at correcting the 900s. The combination will very well in several sets of loudspeakers..

Rex81, have you finished fully burning in the 900? How does it compare to the 700 as of now? Your opinion on that would be much appreciated. =)

Yep, its fully burned in. Got about 150 hours on it. I still stand by everything I wrote in post #399. Even against the modded 900, the stock 700 is a more enjoyable listen, and a better balanced headphone in my opinion.

Thanks buddy, almost missed your post on the previous page. But have you tried RX700's pads on the modded 900? In the RX900 mods thread, someone posted that 900's leather pads are one of the factors for its dark sound signature. Have you tried swapping the pads on both of them?

I did swap them. I'm using the 900 pads on the 700 and vice versa now. I figured if I liked the 700 more, I ought to have the better pads to match. I didn't notice much of a difference. They both seal the same, and they're about the same width. There's just something about the 900 that makes it sound echoey and just not as forward and tight.
