Dammit, couldn't resist ordering the FX850...

(thing is, the FX700 are still among my favorite IEMs.)

Going by driver size, FX650 seem to be successors to the FX500 (8.5mm), FX750 to the FX700 (10mm), but FX850 feature a new 11mm driver.

Oh, and JVC finally got the cable length right.

Aw crap!! I'm scared to hear about them (scared for wallet that is)..... Hope they're awesome (or not!!

Please give us a bit of a review when your 850's arrive.

Of course, will do.

I wonder how the fit will be and how they will stack up versus so many options we have today.  I loved the FX700 but the game has changed so much since that was out.

The game has changed, but then again not so much imo. Dynamic drivers and (multi-) BAs are still apples and oranges to my ears. I know we have a myriad of options among the latter nowadays and they have undeniable technical advantages. But when it comes to natural tonality, particularly with classical music, I still find myself reaching for a DD based (or at least hybrid) pair of IEMs 9 out of 10 times.

I'm pretty confident the 850 will continue JVC's tradition of first rate timbre, just hope that they went easy on the bass with these.

....and no treble spikes, or pulled back mids.

From the OP's picture, the fx850 will be a little heavier than the fx700, but will have a little more isolation. The semi-open backing on the 850 reminds me of my full-size pro 2900. The length of the wood body makes it look like the jvc fxz-series iems. I put the last statement in bold as a reminder of their last design efforts with the fxz100/200 and add more curious thoughts to the table.

Having had a set of the fxz-200's and recently purchased the 100's i hope the ergonomics are much better. The fxz frankenbolts sound awesome but look... odd. And again, the large nozzle prevents a deeper insertion. I realize that wont do much if they are semi open for the sound, but they feel like they are about to fall out most of the time.

You gotta know your preferences. For my part, I don't like in-your-face mids or dull treble. FX700 with longish tips and a leaky seal are right up my alley.

See, the FX700's mids were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too recessed for me. Other than that, it was one of the best earphones I've ever owned (once I found the right tips to tame the highs somewhat too). I hope they bring the mids up in the 850.
