JVC HA-FW01 - The New Top End Wood Driver IEM (2017)

👍
The FW01 scales up quite a bit. Using a 1960s 2-wire that I asked Peter to change to MMCX, no ear hooks (not much thicker than original stock cable) 4.4 balanced with N8 - incredible. With acoustic and music focused on vocals I haven't tried a DD that can match ( I'm trying find one!). Hs anyone compared these to 1500/1800??
👍

I bought a pair recently and I was instantly in love with the sound when I put some music trough them. This is definitely my type of signature, very warm (dark if you wanna call it that way), rich, full bodied sound. It's like the Shozy Zero but on heavy steroids and the build quality is just exquisite. It exudes luxury and robustness, what a nice purchase. Next for me is the Victor FW1500 and I think I'll start a mini collection of JVC IEM woodies.

I am thinking of getting the FW-01 from drop for $240.

I have the FX650 which are my first and only Woodies and really enjoy the signature, especially for classical piano.

For regular music i usually have to run a -2db......-5db pEQ low shelf because the bass is too much for me to enjoy.

Could somebody kindly tell me what improvements/changes I could expect from the FW-01 compared to the 650?

Many thanks!

The jvc fw10000 is the one to get.

Yes. Except for fw10000. Fw10000 is more neutral with more emphasis on mids and has more details. Fw10000 rivals headphone in airiness and very open sounding. All others models of jvc have more bass and less technicalities.

Price tag’s pretty steep though! I’m actually snooping around for an analytical pair of iems and I happen to come across a good deal on the FW03s but from what I’ve read, JVC’s house sound is V-shaped right?

I've only heard FW01, but the FR looks quite similar so JVC-wise I suspect you'd be better off with DIY modified FD01 or Drop FDX1. Etymotic ER2, or Drop Plus are worth looking at as well in my experience, although I am not very up to date & depends on what type of analytical you are looking for.

I’ve had the ER3SE before and they sounded alittle dark to me. I think my preference is strongly towards lean, bright and highly technical. I’ve heard good things about the Drop FDX1 as well but it’s gonna be a blind buy.

What cable do you use with it?

I agree with that, but el-jorge wants something that’s suitable for a daily commute and can be powered with just a smartphone. The XBA-N3 is better than the FW01 in that regard.
Thanks for all the help 2 years ago. I finally bought the jvc last year and hooked them up to a Fiio m11. I like them. Because of the pandemic my commuting almost stopped, so haven’t used them much. I was wondering which balanced cable you are using it with.
