Hey guys,

You may have seen that I just won a great Marantz CDP in the Member Lounge.

Now, I need to expand my CD's
I have a TON of classic rock, so that is taken care of.
Plenty of 90's and 60's thrown in as well

I will be buying for sure
-Ella (all of them)
-Maroon 5 (recent CD)
-Motion City Soundtrack (Even if it Kills Me)
-Simon and Garfunkle
-Dizzy G
-Louie Armstrong
-The Killers
-Kill Hannah
-Sara Barielles
-Augustana
-Gin Bolloms

(*I know that a lot of these names have kill in them - but they are happy bands - oddly)

What I need:

Great Classical CD's (Opera, Romantic, Melodic experimental, 2nd vienese school/1st as well, Russian classical, some Verdi, plenty of italien (Pini de Roma), etc.

Very good Big Band Jazz

Modern Acoustic

Good modern Rock + Alternative

Go at it guys!

Gin Bolloms

Is that supposed to be the Gin Blossoms?

An artist that has been getting plenty of ear time for me is Amos Lee. His albums "Amos Lee" and "Supply and Demand" are fantastic.

BTW, congrats on winning your new Marantz. Awesome stuff!

Modern Acoustic:
Iron and Wine
Elliott Smith
Owen
Wilco
Andy McKee (great instrumental acoustic guitarist)
Rocky Votolato
Bright Eyes
Great Lake Swimmers
Red House Painters
Dashboard Confessional (this is a guilty pleasure but, I recommend only the older albums 2003 and before)

congrats by the way.

Check out Nickel Creek for alt/acoustic.

For full modern acoustic, get some Jason Mraz, preferably live. Great imaging , very good male voice and acoustic guitar sounds.

For classical, most Deutsche Gramaphones' works are well recorded. I have "The Planets" on heavy rotation, which I like a lot.

Any of the recordings of "Pictures At An Exhibition" are good, slower tempos are better, IMO.

I don't know the genre she is, but Susan Wong is true audiophile recordings, and excellent music.

Also check out Nils Lofgren- Acoustic live. You will not be disappointed.

Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane over the sea for semi acoustic.

I'll second Iron and Wine as well, Jose Gonzalez Veneer was excellt for this as well.

Also I'd recommend Grand National by John Butler Trio as an excellent CD for semi audiophile needs.

Jorma Kaukonen, Blue Country Heart
Ali Farka Toure, Savane
Arcade Fire, Funeral
CAN, Flow Motion (it's binaural!)
The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Grandaddy, Sumday
Louis Prima (anything - there are lots of collections)
Olivia Tremor Control, Music from the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle
