JH Audio Layla Impressions Thread

Hey guys, my Linsoul 4-pin -> mmcx Lola adapters arrived yesterday :) Not bad considering I ordered on June 12th and I'm in USA.

I decided to try the Fiio UTSW3. The reviews looked good and the iBasso CF01 apparently doesn't have volume adjustment which I kinda want.

How do you guys have your bass set on these? I have my balanced JH cable bass set to 2:30. I listen to mostly female vocals, classical and opera, guitar, blues, pink floyd... I'm not a bass head by a long shot, no hip hop or anything like that.

Thanks again for the help
Will the FiiO have the grunt to drive the Layla? I hope so, let me know - would be good to dabble!

I don’t think Layla’s are hard to drive. But I haven’t tried the UTW3, though.

Wow Fiio + Lola sounds absolutely incredible. Puts my Devialet Geminis and MEF mu3’s to shame. Tons of power - had to turn it way down. The Linsoul 4 pin -> MMCX work flawlessly including the bass adjust.

one pain in the a$$ though. The Lolas don’t fit in the case while connected to the Fiio’s. I have to disconnect them and even then, they barely fit inside. (Using Acoustune tips). I actual put a rubber band around the base because I’m afraid it’ll pop open

The fit is awesome and really comfortable. I love the control buttons too

This is the best combination ever to me (beat those U18T, Mason V3 which I used to have), I can listen to all Genres with these.
ARM20 mod, JH Layla II and adapter (from japan auctions.yahoo) and coldwar mmcx cable (the cable is quite known in Thai head-fi community)

I come from Shure SE535 and SE846. Layla Customs are an other world, way way better. I was afraid to have not enough bass but damn Layla kicks very hard on the low with default option at 12h. With SA700 - Astell&Kern, i feel now the real power of the music, very happy, its more clear at every level. I was afraid to be disappointed and still prefer the SE846 after paying all that money but no JH Audio changes your life with no joke, its a real upgrade :beerchug:

Glad you’re happy. Layla is definitely special, even after all those years in the market and all the overflow of new IEMs, I still think Layla plays with the top one. I live mine.

Labkable Pandora 8w version JH 7pin
That looks nice. A silver/black accent would go well with my Layla.
How does it sound?

Freqphase question - All frequencies of sounds travel at the same speed. However, JH claims that the drivers for the low frequency sounds are closer to the soundhole of the earphone than the high frequency sounds in order to allow all sounds to exit at the same time.

Can someone please explain to me, if all sounds travel at the same time, what difference does freqphase make to the sound?

Thanks

I think the idea is different from that of coaxial speaker design, where the distances from drivers to ears can actually be different. IMO JH is addressing a nature of the BA drivers, that big drivers (bass) make sound slower than small drivers (highs). Since the difference in driver speed is too small to be addressed in the analogue circuit, he does it by lengthening the sound bores.
