Hmmm, really, I actually didn't have that particular thought come to mind. That would be a bad bad thing huh? Hmmm, I'm just going to sit and stare at that post for a few more minutes and try to understand....

Perhaps the correct phrase should be: "I beat someone Senns-less."

After posting the pics, I managed to get some time with the 325i's and the Millett Prototype and all I can say is DAMN! That is one hell of a combo. Right out of the box, the Grados sounded fantastic. I never thought I'd be a Grado fan considering my love of the Senns and my Boston Acoustics speakers, which I would consider fairly easy going. And I may night like them with a solid state amp (though I haven't tried 'em with one... YET), but I LOVE them with the Millett.

Now after a night out with some friends, I'm planning on spending some time with the PPAv2 and the 650's before going to bed tonight. I'm looking forward to that VERY much. I'm also curious to hear the 650's burn-in. I've read about it, and didn't get to experience it with the 580's as I purchased them used. So if half of what people say happens through out the first couple hundred hours, it should be an interesting journey.

I know it seems insane to drop that kind of coin all at once, but I wanted to do it all at once to allow myself to fully switch into "Listen to Music" mode without thinking of upgrading this or that. The E2's sounded very uninspired, especially after listening to Nate's 225's on the Millett. The E4c's are a completely different world. My PPAv2 is pretty impressive and I'm not going to be doing anything new on the DIY front for a while, and I have high hopes for the mating of the somewhat dry and detailed PPA with the full and rich 650's. And the Millett is a lot of fun... it sounds great with my 580's and even better with the Grados. I'm not saying changes won't ever happen with my setup... I just know changes won't be happening for a while!!! Now if I can just stay out of the music forum and stop buying CD's, I'll be all set!

I'm really looking forward to the comparison between the Senns. Having the whole line together, if only for a little while, should be fun to explore. Basically the plan is to keep the 580's around while the 650's break in, and then off they go. But I'm sure we'll take the time to post our thoughts on the strengths of each.

As for the camera, it's a Nikon Coolpix SQ that I had fairly high hopes for, but have been a little disappointed with it. I got it for a ski trip to Colorado and it did pretty well with the outdoor shots, even with all the white. But indoor shots have been, how shall I say this... uninspired. But as Nate said, I'm not worried... he usually does a great job! No camera upgrade in my future... maybe a little time with the SQ's manual would be time well spent.

Well, enough posting... time for some listening!!!

I am ready to pull the trigger on the 650's or RS-1

Tommorow
I will need to pay a lawyer for a quick divorce

Note
I did sell my Beyer 861's, Grado SR-60's and ETY 6's. So that has helped

In that light, would anyone care to know the "sins" I have commited in the last four days? They are now where near as expensive as the sins of those before me, but quantitatively they are superior...

Just spent a quick hour with the 650's...
Wow!
Just a little backround... Nate and I wrote a summary of the head-to-head of my PPAv2 and his M^3, available here:
http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=119766
The one thing I found lacking with my PPA and 580's, especially compared to the M^3, was female vocals. I listen to a lot of bands with female vocals, and the upper mid-range seemed to be a little lacking with the PPA and the 580's. This seemed to leave the female vocals a little thin and/or dry. Rachael Yamagata's rich voice on her debut full-length album Happenstance sounded amazing... it was so full and lush. And Dominique Durand's voice on Ivy's latest, In The Clear, just seemed to melt. I know the 650's are right out of the box, but they seem to shine with the PPA, with a much warmer sound and more bass, without losing the high-end detail.
I'm very pleased!

Well, I picked up a couple of cheap banana hangers and have my PPAv2 powering the 650's and Nate's M^3 powering the 325i's and they're rocking out my bedroom right now! I've managed to give them a decent listen right out of the box, and now we'll see how much they change over the next few days.

Thanks for all the posts everyone!

They'll be coming, for sure. I'm just trying to give them a chance to "breathe" a little before I really do any critical listening. I was also having trouble listening for long because I didn't have A/C in my apt, and it was HOT. But A/C is up and running, and a little A/B comparisons between the 650's and 580's have already left me very pleased with me decision. And the 325i's are really impressive. I was a little hesitant to get them because the 225's are generally regarded as the smoothes Grado, and the 325i is supposed to be a little livlier. Well so far I would definitely describe them as forward but not at all harsh.
