After posting the pics, I managed to get some time with the 325i's and the Millett Prototype and all I can say is DAMN! That is one hell of a combo. Right out of the box, the Grados sounded fantastic. I never thought I'd be a Grado fan considering my love of the Senns and my Boston Acoustics speakers, which I would consider fairly easy going. And I may night like them with a solid state amp (though I haven't tried 'em with one... YET), but I LOVE them with the Millett.
Now after a night out with some friends, I'm planning on spending some time with the PPAv2 and the 650's before going to bed tonight. I'm looking forward to that VERY much. I'm also curious to hear the 650's burn-in. I've read about it, and didn't get to experience it with the 580's as I purchased them used. So if half of what people say happens through out the first couple hundred hours, it should be an interesting journey.
I know it seems insane to drop that kind of coin all at once, but I wanted to do it all at once to allow myself to fully switch into "Listen to Music" mode without thinking of upgrading this or that. The E2's sounded very uninspired, especially after listening to Nate's 225's on the Millett. The E4c's are a completely different world. My PPAv2 is pretty impressive and I'm not going to be doing anything new on the DIY front for a while, and I have high hopes for the mating of the somewhat dry and detailed PPA with the full and rich 650's. And the Millett is a lot of fun... it sounds great with my 580's and even better with the Grados. I'm not saying changes won't ever happen with my setup... I just know changes won't be happening for a while!!! Now if I can just stay out of the music forum and stop buying CD's, I'll be all set!
I'm really looking forward to the comparison between the Senns. Having the whole line together, if only for a little while, should be fun to explore. Basically the plan is to keep the 580's around while the 650's break in, and then off they go. But I'm sure we'll take the time to post our thoughts on the strengths of each.
As for the camera, it's a Nikon Coolpix SQ that I had fairly high hopes for, but have been a little disappointed with it. I got it for a ski trip to Colorado and it did pretty well with the outdoor shots, even with all the white. But indoor shots have been, how shall I say this... uninspired. But as Nate said, I'm not worried... he usually does a great job! No camera upgrade in my future... maybe a little time with the SQ's manual would be time well spent.
Well, enough posting... time for some listening!!!
