iTunes is certainly another experience on Mac OS X than on MS Windows...

I am hesitating on moving to iTunes 8 because i) I use PC, and ii) have large-ish music library. I have bad memories of needing over 10 hours to import all my music on my first use of iTunes.

I read that initialization of Genius takes a long time . . .

The new cover art view is almost useless if you have a large amount of library. It's too sluggish.

If you're on a Mac, quit iTunes, open the Terminal application and type:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE

To get the arrows back, just type the same but substitute the word TRUE for the word FALSE.

To get rid of the Genre column, quit iTunes and in Terminal type:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE

Be careful using Terminal. Make sure that you include the upper/lowercase characters and the between-word spaces. Usual 'at your own risk' clause here.

Sorry, don't think that you can turn them off if you're using iTunes under Windows. Windows preferences are stored as a long hex string, so working out what part you'd need to change would be a major PITA...

There are some instructions HERE for doing this in Windows - though I can't vouch for them, I haven't tried it.
Please report if anyone does try this.

ive never liked itunes,

i dont like any one of the displays, ie cover flow impracticale, (good on the phone),

also it always seems to have bits of tag info/album covers missing

like some others, have to have it for the iphone!

Darn it!

iTunes has always been pretty slick for me on XP and iTunes 8 is having no troubles at all. Cover flow is smooth, and half my image tags contain large images.

another thing..
iTunes is the laggiest program on Windows.

it is useless..too bright sound ..even after turning off sound enhancer.

since i have ipod i gotta use it sometime

Oh man! You are right. I thought I somehow messed up my computer, but I too have noticed it is very laggy. The album art load up is much slower, plus it's consuming so much of my memory. I jumped from 50/60% to 75/80% ram usage of 1 GB. It sort of bugs me, because I do notice it slowing down other programs.

Aww, too bad. I'm a Vista user. I hope to make my transition to a mac someday though.
In the mean time, I'll just go back to iTunes 7. I don't need the new cover browser or anything.
