My apologies, I didn't read that carefully enough, and I didn't really mean to tick you in particular off since I don't think you've ever done anything to that effect. I agree afterall.
It just irks me when people say things like X is better than everything or Y is total ****. Threads like this invite these comments and are generally a waste of time. Obviously if a headphone sucks, and some must, it has to be said. But without an understanding of the person's tastes, and a detailed analysis and careful consideration of any positives it's obviously a hasty opinion. Someone around here said they disregard all reviews that dont mention any negatives--I agree. The same applies in reverse. There is far too much carlessness around here, from obviously biased opinions to talking about headphones that one hasn't heard (it's even worse when the people in question KNOW they're doing this) to always recommending the same stupid headphone for everything. You know who you are--if I see your name and already know what you're going to say you're wasting everyone's time.

I agree. I owned both and tried driving them with several different amps (including the DAC1 which is a bright amp). They are tremendously un-involving. They don’t suck, they’re just the most over rated headphones on the planet

All our heads are shaped differently, so clearly Grados weren't designed with your head in mind. Apparently they fit me pretty well. So if Grado changes things to appease you, then I'm screwed, and we can't have that.
Your confusing the fun of playing with pads for different asthetics and sound qualities with the hassle of trying different pads for comfort. I don't see too many people with Beyer/Senn/AKG models putting grado pads on because they are so nice.
It's true that all our heads are different as is our idea of comfort and what is tolerable or not. I know one of the main features along with sound quality that originally drove me to look at other phones besides the latest cheaply made sonys off the rack was the prospect of wearing something comfortable as well as something that sounded better. Meanwhile plenty of folks happily continue to on with those sonys like I did for many a year.
Of all the headphones that I've listened to that are recommended by even some Head-Fiers, the Sony MDR-CD3000 is the most overrated. It sounds surprisingly mediocre out of everything that I tried using that 'phone with.
Runner-up is the Grado RS-1: I could never get past the honky mids on it.
