Is there one headphone you think is extremely overrated?

I have one headphone in my list that I own that was a supreme disappointment. So much so that I cringe in disbelief when I see other people recommending it. It makes me want to post that it's garbage...but I don't want to stir up the controversy.

Do any of you heard a specific headphone that you feel the same way about? I mean, *extremely* overrated, not just a bit overrated. Sort of like the way a movie sweeps Academy Awards, but you thought was absolutely painful to watch (*cough* English Patient *cough*)

Edit: You can post the name with wildcards to give us a hint but not name a specific model if you don't want to stir up controversy

Mine is Shure XXX

honestly i would have said the qualia, but by this time i think folks know about the pitfalls of this can versus the price.

so i'll say the CD3K. how anyone can live with that little bass is beyond me. don't buy it just because it's out of production gang!

Grado SR-325i. I got a chance to hear these wil my Millet, an M3, and a Dynahi this past weekend and almost exploded. They were utterly horrible.

Grado RS-1 and RS-2. I even listened to a balanced set (RS-2's I think) and wasn't impressed one bit. Like tkam said in the Pittsburgh meet impressions, they just sound like normal Grado's with a coloration to make them sound "better".

I guess Grado's aren't my cup of tea eh?

I also think the ER4p (not the S version though) is overrated for the price. By this I am referring to the $330 price. The online prices of around $200 is what their price should be. After all they sound very thin, have one of the most innacurate timbre, sound sibilant, have an annoying sibilance due to exxagerated mid-treble and have some of the most innatural amounts of decay of any phones, and also for the price their construction is very poor. It seems to me as if the etys sound clearer, and separate the instruments better, not because they are clearer, but because they rid music of decay, which creates an illusion of better clarity and separation.

MS1's

People here act as if they are made by the audio god himself. They do sound good but there are other cans in the same price range that sound better or just as good and are about 500X more comfortable.

I think you should always say how you feel about a particular headphone, no matter how you think people will react - ESPECIALLY if you have a strong opinion about it. How are people supposed to get an accurate picture of a headphone (without hearing it) if they don't hear praise and criticism about it?

Like, even though Thaddy is 100% wrong about the 325i's not being amazing, I'm not going to hate him for very long for saying it. What's the matter, thad, cotton in your ears? Or is it that you prefer cotton in your ears?

Point taken. Sometimes, it's just a case of being lazy...after all, this forum is already a time killer, and spending one's life explaining oneself after making a scathing review is going rob me what little life I have left.

In my case, it's the Shure E3, the longer I own it, the more I dislike its sound signature.

This is very interesting. What do you think might sound as good or better for the same price range?

I'm NOT starting any flame wars etc...but just pure 100% curiosity. I personally just bought a MS1 as well, but for my particular taste, I like the SR60's sound more.... However, I'm getting warmed up to my MS1 and am starting to like it a lot.

EQ is the Devil's work!

All joking aside, there are certain things an EQ can help you with, like obviously attenuating bands of frequency, duh, and even feel like you are getting more detail by pumping the highs. But the actual nature of the cans are going to stay the same. A closed DT770 ain't never going to sound like an open Qualia, no matter how much EQ you use!

As an aside, what cans would you have put on there in the Sub-$100 category that go toe to toe with the MS-1? The AT A500? the AKG K240? (honestly I'd like to know since i haven't heard those two cans) I wouldn't put the HD280 or Sony V6/7506 in the same league to be honest (I've heard both) but that's just me (it definitely isn't the HD25-1!). I don't think the MS-1 is overhyped at all - to my ears!
