Is there a way to by-pass the Ipod's internal DAC?

Commercially if someone did probably Apple & Wadia will sue them.

So far there is no portable option yet for bypassing the internal dac

Winner right here. You dont even have to have your PC hooked to a dac/soundcard. You effectively bypassed the ipods DAC by just connecting it to your computer with a USB cable. Makes me wonder why'd you wanna get a wadia.

eh? Your PC is the source then, the ipod is just a hard disc at this point.

D50 can hardly be classified as DAP, more like 'audio brick'.

I remember reading somewhere on HeadFi about the audio signal via USB will utilize the KMixer. What exactly is the Kmixer? Does it change the audio signal at all?
Using the same logic, can I connect my external hard drive to my Sony PS3 via USB, then connect the PS3 to an external DAC via optical, and at the same time bypass the PS3 internal DAC and preserve the bit-perfect audio signal?
