In your case, using the default onboard sound, setting up Foobar probably isn't as much hassle as when setting it up for an external DAC via ASIO, etc. etc. That's where much of the confusion originates.

This analogy is probably too extreme, but here goes: imagine that using WMP11 for simple playback is sort of like using the Calculator in Windows.....a finished product, more or less, that allows you to do specific calculations.....but Foobar is more like Excel, which has a lot more capability than Calculator, but involves a learning curve to set it up and use it.

I tried the BeatPort SYNC player for a while earlier this week, and it seems fairly painless to install and set up.....but I don't know if you would find any advantages in its use versus WMP.

Try Jriver's Media Jukebox. The paid version (Media Center) is even better.

There's a plugin to make flac work flawlessly in fb2k, check the website

Depend what you mean with "better". But these are worth a try:
* iTunes
* foobar2000
* WinAmp

Back when itunes was implimenting SRC @ v 7.5 I could really hear the difference between that and VLC. VLC is absolutely wonderful for sq, but a bitch for everything else. When songbird works properly then we'll have the best of both worlds!

x3

Media Jukebox is Free and works right out of the box, flac is native without plugins.
