I don't think HD800 worth 5 x HD650 , guess worth more than 3x HD650 .
(it might be an ordinary suggestion here)

Actually, the retail price of the HD 800 is only 2.5 x the retail price of the HD 650.

Only suckers pay retail. I guess Senn is making suckers out of many of us.

HD800 may be costly, but they're the best sound I've ever heard. They're a bargain considering you can safely flush all your other headphones.

I agree. Seems like you can pick up a pre-owned set of HD800 around $1k nowadays. Compare that to HD650 + cable around $500. I think it's definitely worth twice the price. I used to have 3 headsets around - replaced all w a HD800 -> bliss. YMMV.

I only saw one at that price and it was in so-so condition. Otherwise they go for $1200+ usually.

Guess I got lucky - I had a saved search on Ebay for the past two months. Guy from Norcal posted barely used one for a $1k - sprang for it. I can recommend Ebay saved searches (with the usual common sense approach of course). :)

I just bought the HD800 yesterday!!!!
smile.gif
I am driving it from an AMB M^3 amplifier and it sounded better than any headphone I've ever heard. But to be honest, I'd expected more from these headphones. The HD 800 sounded obviously better than my denon Ah-d2000 but imo definately not worth the extra bucks. I will be keeping these headphones but imvho, is not worth 1.4k$.

Btw, I've heard many people say that the HD800 is cold and analytic, lacked bass and had a hot treble but it sounded quite warm and bassy to me. The treble was not at all hot and compare to the denon ahd2000, the denon had much much more treble which no one complained about. Can anyone confirm this? Im starting to get worried if my pair is a defect. thanks

why do people equate flagship headphones to price vs performance? There are none.. What you get is the ultimate 'best.' For what it gives you, 1,400 seems pretty fair, but I feel 1,200 would be more viable.

Your saying an M3 is not enough to power the HD800?

  Sennheiser's original demo was a DAC1.

The price of audio is way overpriced across the board.  There isn't anything in audio I can't think of that isn't overpriced.   Whether it's one mp3, a CD, cables/wires, headphones or speakers.

Just listen and enjoy what you have and buy when you can afford it.  That's all you can do, don't dwell on whether the HD800 is overpriced.  If you can't afford it, don't worry about it.  Enjoy the HD600 or the AD900 or HFI 780.

When you can afford it, buy it and enjoy it.  That's it.

But I think you will find those seeking headphones like HD800 are a vast minority on even Head-Fi.  Most Head-Fiers just look for something that fits their budget and listen and enjoy the music.  And once they enjoy the music, nothing else matters, they don't have the need to run out and buy the flavor of the month.  If you notice the few who do, are typically the same people on these forums for years now.  It's what they like to do, but it's no the typical headphone/music fan.
